      customs gotta be a bitch

Yes I had to pay +1000 usd to get this thing shipped to EU, but it was definitely a good investment since the bulbs last a long time 🙂

        Build your own sperti lamp.

Am somewhat familiar but will look further into this.

@loess your claim that their vitamin d is unparalleled in quality is weird

Yeah. There must be other things at play here. Either it's the dermal metabolic route which may be directing all synthesis right towards 1,25OHD3 or the rarer metabolites, skipping or outbalancing the systemic effects of D3 and 25OHD3. That wouldn't increase steroidogenesis, however, even if it remained locally in the skin. The opposite is more likely: Direction of synthesis towards 25OHD3 in skin with all its localized pro-steroidogenic effects of its accumulation and systemic distribution only following secondarily. Yet since the systemic distribution is nevertheless happening but not as subjectively suppressive as with oral intakes I highly doubt it's about systemic D3 pathways at all.

It may rather be due to the unrelated effects of UV light spectrum on the skin usually lacking under fluorescent light; degradation of peripheral(!) pituitary (stress) hormones like ACTH, PRL and (the wrong) steroids and melatonin (circadian rythmn). Sulfation / sulfate synthesis also increase significantly which may influence circulating DHEA-S levels but also provide sulfates to other various metabolic needs.
Along with an acceleration of cholesterol utlization towards more steroids and cortisol. Eustress in the skin.

Perhaps it also acts as an oxidative therapy due to UV-induced ROS in skin. But that overlaps with degradation.

If I were a betting guy I'd say D3 is barking up the wrong tree and instead wager the second, as the skin is actually a major steroidogenic organ and the real-life extent here reported by korven is fascinating.

@BioEclectic My comment was intended to place emphasis on the unlikelihood of any issues with overt allergenicity to impurities in the product or digestive irritation (as I've experienced with vitamin D supplements in MCT oil, for example) being causative factors in the association between starting the supplementation and experiencing a downtrend in various aspects of my health.

I should have clarified; what I meant was not necessarily that their vitamin D supplement somehow "works better" than every other vitamin D supplement out there, but rather that they are quite forthright and thorough with the documentation and testing of the raw materials that are in their products, and share numerous COA documents and so on to that end. I've not seen that level of detail elsewhere.

@CrumblingCookie I hadn't considered this line of thinking. It will be interesting to observe how things progress for me with resuming use of the UV lamp.

This is the exact setup that I built.

@CrumblingCookie Yeah interesting ideas! I get many benefits from using this lamp which do not overlap with vitamin D supplements, so you might be onto something. I forgot to mention that my DHEA-S is now also in the healthy range, before it was under the reference interval. So that backs up your theory that the UVB light is more of a overall boost to steroidogenesis.

However the normalised serum calcium seems to be a very vitamin D specific thing.... Like I mentioned it's been high the past couple years along with "deficient" vitamin D levels

@heyman Technically, yes, it's the same thing. But my vitamin D levels were still low using a tanning bed 1-2x per week over the winter months.

I am using this thing more often (3-4x per week) so maybe thats why my vitamin D levels are improving. Or it's just more effective than tanning beds , not sure 🤔
