I'd like to make some scrumptious waffles or pancakes. Only problem is, the usual non-traditional toppings like peanut butter are off limits and even chocolate has a lot of fat (although 50% saturated).

What are some good ways to spruce up this classic dish other than boring old maple syrup?

@engineer Frozen berries are an obvious choice if you like them. I also just pour out caster sugar on my milk powder pancakes when I make them

@engineer, if you like fruit, compôte goes well with waffles and pancakes, and even crêpes. I make flourless banana crêpes and stuff them with compôte and skyr (in the US, the brand Icelandic Provisions uses an authentic Icelandic culture) or a mild yogurt I’ve strained so that it’s as thick as quark. It’s essentially a blintz. It’s really filling and warming, especially if you heat up the compôte before filling the crêpes. A dollop of whipped cream on top makes it extra delicious.
