Perhaps by taking only T4, which has a long half-life, you need to maximize absorption in those cases where the person's absorption is probably already very impaired. Most of the time, after a while, T4 alone makes things worse with rT3.

I don't remember the context but I think Ray was talking about T3+T4 together with food to somehow "mimic the natural release of T3". Too much hormone at once activates mechanisms to return to balance (such as conversion to rT3, excretion, etc...).

Thyroid on empty stomach gave me always stress reactions. Ray always recommend with food and thats what I like also more its more slow released and the other good thing is you can modulate your t4/t3 ratio for example i take NDT 1:4 ratio with meals and much calcium I can drop the ratio to 1:3 or 1:2 young sinatra wrote about this also on RPF IDK if hes already here on the forum

        You're right!

        T3

        T4

Fasted bioavailability of LT4 is 80%, with food it’s 40-60%.
Fasted bioavailability of LT3 is 90% and apparently it’s absorption is not influenced by food consumption.

So if I take 100mcg of T4 and 20 mcg of T3 a day with food. I probably end up with 40-60mcg of bioavailable T4 and 18 mcg of T3, theoretically changing the T4/T3 ratio from 5:1 >>> 2:1 or 3:1.

How about dairy? If I take 1 drop (8mcg) of tyronene with dairy, how much am I getting?

No, I was just interested in the information and looked it up. I didn't know that food had such an influence on T4 absorption

@TexugoDoMel yes very interesting, also the difference between t3 or t4 in regard of absorption

I believe absorption is the same in everyone, given the exact same conditions the meds are taken in. So if you want to maximise absorption, you take it on an empty stomach 4 hours before meal. Calcium and Iron especially interfere with absorption.
So if you take it with food, you’re not really getting your intended dose.

do you take your NDT with meals and Ca supplement or you mean dairy as Calcium?

isn't that the T4 and T3 in NDT digest/absorb in a different manner from synthetic T4 and T3, therefore we can't really account for the text you attached , or this comes from a study that used specifically NDT?

I suspect that if we compare absorption with food/Ca of NDT vs Synthetic t4/T3 combo, things may be different
