That’s right, it’s a genetic mutation called lactase persistence, most north Western Europeans have the mutation because of our long history of dairy consumption.

@RawGoatMilk88 according to Ray’s assessment, this is reversible in black children taking a thimble full of milk with each meal for 3 weeks.

Curiously, I lost my lactose digestion capability, and had to start with slowed consumption, until I could consume a gallon of skim milk a day.

He was a self proclaimed fruitarian. Now as most other US folks that live in a northerly climate know, it's hard getting quality ripe fruit most of the year. It won't even ripen properly on the table, it goes from sour to dull flavorless pseudo-ripe then to rotten. Your quality options are much more limited than even a vegetarian's. I noticed his mention of juice consumption, as a filler substitute presumably, and again quality products are few along with additives and varying degrees of contamination. For people living in these circumstances, especially with pre-existing conditions, this likely isn't the road to health.

As for milk, and to state the obvious, it can be a complicated topic. It takes long to digest, requires a "decently" operating digestive system, and low quality products can make things worse.

Abstain from milk for a decent amount of time and you'll lose the ability to digest it. It must be introduced slowly, as @LetTheRedeemed said, it must be titrated up. It supposedly works for the Chinese, who are becoming avid drinkers. There may be some genetic component involved ala lactase persistence but other folks seem to be adapting in other ways. There are certain times when milk needs to be put to the side though, till other issues have been resolved or the meds have been finished.

I think it really depends on the dairy that you buy. If it is fortified with vitamins, A1, ultrahomogenised, etc etc then even some very healthy people may have digestive issues with it.
