So I may bring a few different thingsIm at work

- low stress
THIS COVERS A MILLION THINGS
Ie: when your blood sugar is labile. That’s stressful. It raises cortisol and steals progesterone…. - no over exercise or exercise addiction
- eating robustly. Always.
- eating a wide variety of foods
- getting sun
- being ready for change. For your life to change. Even your worldview or identity.
- ready to be a parent. Not just have babies
- forecast financially. Is it necessary to work full time? To work at all?
- postpartum care set up. The US really cuts this short
- enjoy the miracle of pregnancy and the birth experience. It’s YOUR journey. Try to block out all the dogma.
- prepare your pet if needed
- and again. Don’t stress. No worry. Trust your body. If you give it what it needs- the body is highly adaptable to protect the baby in my experience
- and if you loose a pregnancy. Deep breath. Assess. And have hope as you relax and adjust.
- stay away from fertility treatments or clinics

Firstly, I must have attracted several females to this forum.
No thread could be more important. This advice from Ray is crucial. I think women need to be very attentive to what their body tells them. Enough sugar and other macronutrients are a must. Stress should also be avoided. It is very common to paint the inside of the house during pregnancy, and I doubt that this is a good idea. You probably need at least two years of no PUFA and nutrient-dense diet before pregnancy. Avoid the VAX too. I think it also important for the man to get his testosterone levels to above 800 pre-pregnancy to get the best offspring.

Bioenergetic basics: Thyroid good (supplement if needed), no fasting, plenty of fruits/sugars, no extremely strenuous exercise but plenty of outside physical activity, sunshine, weekly liver, oysters, daily egg yolks, gelatin, etc, etc, etc.
Progest-E in the fertility cycle IIRC from ovulation to menstruation then stop.
Supplements where needed such as K2, D, E, A, etc.
Good sleep, no alarm clocks, early to bed.
Toxin-free lifestyle, no plastic water bottles, makeup, standard deodorants, shampoos, tupperware, etc etc etc.
Make sure air quality is good.
Good body composition, don't be too fat or skinny.
Good health overall; get some health tests if needed, Danny Roddy has a great list of tests one can get focused on bioenergetic approach.
Done.
I can confirm all this led us from some fertility problems to a very healthy easy pregnancy and birth and a very healthy beautiful symmetrical intelligent precocious child.

Both are based on Katharina Dalton’s work, I believe Peat quite liked her work, he and Peaters in general seem to bring her up a lot.In Dalton’s article “Ante-natal Progesterone and Intelligence”, it was actually the early motor skills that stood out to me, the progesterone children started walking quite early. Compared to the control group, they were almost twice as likely to have started walking at their first birthday. In regards to the IQ several standard deviations above the average I am somewhat skeptical, at least when it comes to how that holds up in adulthood, but it seems positive.
Other than that I wish you and your wife well, I hope you have a beautiful family with as many healthy children as you want.

@Peatful Thank you for taking time off work to answer. May I say that I appreciate your advice a lot, especially that your advice can be followed by anybody without a dozen meetings with doctors. If you see this, can I ask how you dealt with the limited amount of time and sleep that people have when their kids are very young? Most of the things I do to relax and keep stress low involve situations where I am unbothered for multiple hours, such as painting, crochet, playing games or watching movies. I suppose taking a walk with a stroller is one thing to do with a child, but I can’t imagine much else.
I am also glad you overcame the unsuccessful pregnancies, it is a tragic thing that is all too common.

@Norwegian-Mugabe Thank you for your input and the clip. I am glad to also see things a man can do other than help his wife, although that is important. But I have to ask what testosterone does in this case, does it help with having large / healthy children or is it just to conceive? I am also not very aware of the bioenergetic attitude to testosterone, do you recommend testosterone replacement therapy or natural ways if it is below 800?

@Shar_to_the_dae One of the things that inspired me to make this thread was actually a tweet by [at]BradCohn, regarding his sick wife. It was not morning sickness, but cramps and a headache, but I hope you find something that helps you whenever you get pregnant again.

@ILikeToGetPeatOn Always hike the T-levels by natural means. T-Levels correlate with healthier semen production, which will ensure better progeny. I think it is best to conceive during the summer after much time spent outdoors in the sun.

I have read the Dalton studies and I'm not particularly impressed by the statistics involved and I've not seen a convincing mechanism for how progesterone raises intelligence.
That being said, I believe that progesterone is indispensable for protecting the developing brain(especially in 3rd trimester when the brain begins to accumulate omega-3s), facilitating cell differentiation, and protecting the developing fetus from endotoxin exposures. I would add that the personality observations of progesterone babies is probably valid. Progesterone, by itself, may not raise IQ but it will protect from lowered IQ.
There was a guy on the RPF whose wife took 100mg progesterone daily mixed with tocopherols, and 1 grain of thyroid. He stated that the progesterone and thyroid child was particularly outgoing, thoughtful, and energetic, in contrast to their older siblings. Normally, we expect a reverse trend.
This is unsurprising, given the observed phenomenon of thyroid hormone on brain development. Allegedly, scientists in the 40s grafted additional thyroids onto tadpoles. In one case, the alleged effect on brain growth was so severe that it caused the cranium of the tadpole to shatter. I say "alleged" because I have looked high and low for the study in question(Rey, 1948), to no avail. I suspect it to be either fake or lost.
Either way, the human brain has evolved for tens of thousands of years to have access to iodine, selenium, omega-3, and exogenous thyroid hormone. Omega-3 is not a universal benefit-not a shock to anyone here-but the role of omega-3 in the developing brain(3rd trimester to ~2 years old) is seemingly undeniable and I would not deprive a young child of omega-3, specifically DHA. Omega-3 ratio in diet has a U-shaped effect wherein very low has negative effects and very high has similarly negative effects. A balanced Peaty diet with occasional seafoods and/or grass-fed beef should be more than enough in quantity and ratio. You might get fresh fish eggs and eat those raw, as a treat.

Female as well, (29yo), I had a wonderful pregnancy and a seemingly quite smart, strongheaded and well developped daughter. Getting ready for second pregnancy soon.
This is indeed an important thread, especially for single males. Getting familiar with this topic will be extremely beneficial in the future.
I was not familiar with bioenergetic principles then but was clearly naturally maxxing in progesterone (nutrient dense my whole life, very active - no symptoms besides sore chest in the first trimester, glowing throughout the pregnancy, full of energy, extremely happy, baby was also not in any hurry to leave the womb - came 11days overdue, very positive delivery).

Walking everyday (10k steps is not a bad target if you can). Consistent moderate exercise is key, baby also loves it (I kept walking post partum every day, in baby carriers)

Perineal oil massage in the last weeks help a lot with the delivery, I believe. My mom tore with me (first born, big head), and I did not at all with mine.

Reading ""maternity"" books is usually more anxiety inducing than else I found. I read a lot after pregnancy and had more anxiety for my "detrimental choices" than anything else. It is a pity. However, books on hypnobirth or Bradley method are quite nice to get familar with the mechanics and how to make it as wonderful as you can, if you are a bit stressed out. Ray's material can be technically overwhelming when the pregnancy brain is doing its thing, but for sure not as aniety inducing as many other books (i.e nourishing traditions sometimes has a more condescending tone than necessary).
I will not emphasize enough the reduction of stress. Do whatever necessary to remove stress sources from your life. I blocked my mother in law for months. It is okay. Your pregnancy, well-being and baby are MUCH MORE important.
First pregnancy I took the standard prenatal supps, vit D and a couple times magnesium bisglycinate for the light night cramps I got.
Next one I plan on taking ProgestE, vit D, K2, and folate (from balancedbodymind) -

Does anyone have any comments or experience to share in regards to pregnancy at an older age? I had a child at 30 and now I'm 40 and would really like to conceive again. It's taken me 10 years to recover my health to the point where I could even consider this. Obviously it's not ideal, but I'm so much healthier now than I was 10 years ago.
