Mice fed a 0% protein diet for a week lost nearly 20% of their body mass

Well considering he died…. I do think we know how he would fare on a low protein diet lol.
-
There are some studies saying that uncoupling protects the muscles, so I imagine it's something related. I think it's common knowledge that DNP seems to preserve a lot of muscle mass even if you lose a lot of weight (compared to fat loss with ozempic for example). When protein is restricted there is an increase in T3, uncoupling, brown fat... So this could be one of the reasons, but I don't know if it would preserve it for long
Low protein has twice as much t3

@TexugoDoMel Sugar also has a muscle and protein preserving effect. So if one were fed a high carb-low protein diet this could be a protective factor.
-
@Jennifer I still dont have one
-
@RawGoatMilk88 I doubt the low-protein experiment caused his death. If anything it couldve been an attempt to cure whatever health condition he was already dealing with which lead to his death.
-
Certainly didn’t help.
-
@RawGoatMilk88 Yeah but if he was still young and healthy and didnt have an underlying condition he may have fared well, if not possibly better than a higher protein diet. I think thats what Jennifer was getting at atleast.

What Serotoninskeptic said. For all I know, Ray was motivated to experiment with low methionine because his health was failing and no intervention he tried was going to extend his life.

Neither do I. I was going to buy it, but I can’t see spending $550 on a juicer when I can get fresh-pressed cider for $8 a gallon. I did the math and it would cost me around $12 to juice a gallon’s worth of apples.
-
@Jennifer Yess im so glad fresh unpasteurized apple cider is back at my farmer's market
-
@Serotoninskeptic, nice! The one I get is pasteurized, but it’s available year round and I like my cider heated up anyway with some cinnamon and vanilla bean.
-
@Jennifer That reminds me. When i was fruit-based and I first found your posts on RPF, i tried out the warm cider recipe and loved it. I started drinking it every day lol
-
@Serotoninskeptic, oh, wonderful! Spiced cider is to me what OJ is to Peaters. lol With a chunk of gouda, it’s chef’s kiss
-
@Jennifer Ice never had the pleasure of trying it with cheese because i was still vegan I will have to try it!
-
@Serotoninskeptic, ooh…you’re in for a treat then. Another yummy combo is warm apple & pear sauce with raisins, cinnamon, vanilla and a pat of butter, and a chunk of raw goat cheddar. My temp reaches almost 100° with this meal.
-
@Jennifer That sounds incredible i need more warm cozy meals for the fall/winter season. Apple sauce, gelatin broths, fruit compotes are all great
-
@Serotoninskeptic, definitely!
