Impact of Alpha-Ketoglutarate on Skeletal Muscle Health and Exercise Performance: A Narrative Review (2024)

Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) is a pivotal metabolic intermediate within the Krebs cycle and it plays a vital role in cellular energy production and nitrogen metabolism. Table 1 is summary of AKG's various roles.

        Alpha-ketoglutarate

Did you happen to see if L-Arginine a-Ketoglutarate is just as beneficial?
I should rephrase, in other words do studies delineate on the amino acid conjugated?

@bio3nergetic - Arginine α-ketoglutarate (AAKG) containing supplements have been associated with adverse effects requiring hospital admission.

Most the recent work has been performed using calcium α-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) which is more expensive but not life-threatening.

Interesting. There's some good studies on AKG longevity and metabolism .
              I think it's worth a try, have you tried it ? @davidps

@Mauritio - Yes I have tried AKG as a supplement and I still use it. I have not noticed any specfic muscle and exercise performance benefits. I am trying to stay healthy. AKG is formed in gut and I am not willing to assume that my gut microbiome is not the weakest link in my health.

@Mauritio - Thanks for the link. I started taking AKG in 2020 after I read that it restores hair color in some people. It did not work for me but it is still on my short list of supplements.
