The Impact of Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AKG) on Skeletal Muscle Health and Exercise Performance
-
@bio3nergetic - Arginine α-ketoglutarate (AAKG) containing supplements have been associated with adverse effects requiring hospital admission.

– L-arginine and arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (2016)Most the recent work has been performed using calcium α-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) which is more expensive but not life-threatening.

Thanks @DavidPS I am some how not surprised! Arginine anything is a major risk.
-
Interesting. There's some good studies on AKG longevity and metabolism .
I think it's worth a try, have you tried it ? @davidps -
@Mauritio - Yes I have tried AKG as a supplement and I still use it. I have not noticed any specfic muscle and exercise performance benefits. I am trying to stay healthy. AKG is formed in gut and I am not willing to assume that my gut microbiome is not the weakest link in my health.
Alpha-Ketoglutarate, the Bacteriome, Protein Metabolism, and Longevity (2026)AKG is part of the Krebs cycle.

Wiki states that the body has a way to handle excess. See:

@DavidPS Thanks

- Increase in PGC-1a and BDNF
-
α-Ketoglutarate promotes amino acid depletion and suppresses B-cell lymphoma growth and development
-
@Mauritio - Thanks for the link. I started taking AKG in 2020 after I read that it restores hair color in some people. It did not work for me but it is still on my short list of supplements.
-
@DavidPS how much are you taking everyday ?
-
@Mauritio - I take a gram which I split into 2 doses.
-
@DavidPS Ok thanks. Have you ever posted your daily supplement stack ? Would be interesting to read.
-
@Mauritio - I am a whole foods type of person. I encourage others to get their nutrients from food.
