What's the deal with Skim milk? Can we uncover its hidden secrets?
The more Skim milk I drink the more thirsty I become. What's going on there? Why can't Skim milk quench thirst like it should?
-
Skim milk is bad, promotes Acne and some other undesirable consequences, I take 3 to 5 percent daily and see no problem.
-
I will wait for the Peat-chemists to provide actual explanations because I'm sure there are some.
My basic thought is you can't remove "all" fat from milk or it becomes something different. It just seems nutritionally broken and re-arranged.I bought a few gallons of it and I'm not impressed. Felt sort of dehydrated and hungry. Not any improvement in energy. For low fat, 1% or 2% is a better option. It tastes better, too.
Anecdotally, I've heard some commercial dairy brands add more Vitamin D to their milk which means higher cost. Pretty sure I saw one brand's whole milk is higher cost than skim.

I haven't noticed any skin issues. My main problem is it doesn't taste good and isn't very satiating. Even 1% gives some of the fullness of whole milk. I know the raw and organic milk people love the stuff but it's basically like dessert to me. Very good but not in high quantity.

@herenow lol of course they want to demonize dairy and cheese.

Maybe but that is exactly what a crack addict would say. It's always a conspiracy

Just to mention the obvious that nature would want milk to be addictive so the baby grows fast. That doesn't mean it's harmful but the poster asked why milk doesn't seem to be satisfying.

From https://raypeat.com/articles/articles/milk.shtml
"Milk with reduced fat content is required by US law to have vitamins D and A added. The vehicle used in the vitamin preparation, and the industrial contaminants in the “pure” vitamins themselves, are possible sources of allergens in commercial milk, so whole milk is the most likely to be free of allergens.
A thickening agent commonly used in milk products, carrageenan, is a powerful allergen that can cause a “pseudo-latex allergy” (Tarlo, et al., 1995). It is a sulfated polysaccharide, structurally similar to heparin. There are good reasons to think that its toxic effects are the result of disturbance of calcium metabolism (see for example Abdullahi, et al., 1975; Halici, et al., 2008; Janaswamy and Chandrasekaran, 2008)."Plus: https://raypeatexplained.com/ray-peat-on-milk/

@LinDaiyu, maybe you don't drink enough of it, e.g. maybe your diet lacks enough fat (most people thrive on 15-20% fat in diet), or maybe your body wants more carbohydrates or more calcium, etc. Or there may be many other factors. Hard to say without knowing all details/context. Therefore, there is a job for you: Perceive. Think. Act.

- Casomorphins' content in milk/dairy is minimal
- Only found in A1 cows' milk
- Can be easily counteracted by coffee and OJ...

@herenow Here’s some vegan bullshit propaganda for you

NYC Law Student's Cheese Addiction Leads To $ 10K In Rehab
https://www.rttnews.com/3448972/nyc-law-student-s-cheese-addiction-leads-to-10k-in-rehab.aspx@GlucoseGal She's probably an outlier tbh. Vegans push the narrative but people are weirdly committed to cheese.
-
@herenow I went vegan for a bit when I was young & dumb, and I’ll tell u I could not give up the cheese. So yeah probably addictive but incredibly nutritious….

I don't care. Not eating vegetable / insect cheese or soy milk.
-
@Corngold The skin issues are more apparent with age, but the taste is really different, my dad owns cattle and when the milk is left at room temperature, the taste is unmatchable, extremely addictive, but when stored at the fridge, the flavour becomes quite potent and less pleasant than normal 3% at the same temperature

I try to block out I'm eating a cow's utter secretion or chicken breast/boob meat. It's crazy how some things end up normal and other things end up strange.
Insects are probably good food but I can't get myself to eat them. I don't think they'd make good cheese.

@herenow Laughed at this one

I think I've only had raw milk (glass bottle with solid cream layer on top) from a co-op a few times and it was the best milk I've ever had. I've never had skin issues, only bloating. Cheeses seem to be far more reliable for this.

It is weird...but everything is weird. The seed as the male reproductive byproduct; seems like there's some parable about manufactured masculinity in the seed oil industry. Of course the effects are the opposite, but I suppose it reflects man's attempt at dominion over nature, down to these tiny seeds we think are good because we can milk them for big bucks.
