Methylene Blue
-
bump i want to know this too
-
@Lothric No reason to take such high doses! Very stupid in fact!
-
Bump I wanna start taking methylene blue soon
-
I’ve found that it works best in doses around 500mcg and not used on consecutive days (1 on 1 off). Anymore on a single day or using multiple days in row will always give me high serotonin symptoms, mainly headaches. Honestly can’t comprehend how people run multiple mg with no problems, I guess I’m either sensitive to serotonin or don’t degrade it well naturally. That said it is an amazing compound that I’ve likened to turning up the “life dial” if that makes sense, everything is enhanced when I take it.

I'm convinced most people should stay awayfrom it, judging by the amount of 'my pee is blue' tweets i have seen. On the other hand I also get messages from people saying they're taking whole cynomel pills.
Big surprise, they're all Yanks.
-
@sphenoid 500mcg is like 1 drop of a 1% solution then from my calculations
-
@RDacian Yes its a single drop from the healthnatura brand. It pretty remarkable how well it works but if I do more than one or use it for 3 days in a row it makes me feel high serotonin
-
@CO3
Apologies for the bump, but I wanted to note that when I first got my hands on some generic cheap Amazon MB I assumed that Peaters, like with most supplements, took it in greater amounts than the Supplement Facts serving size displays, and so for a couple weeks I took ~7-8mg DAILY. I'm amazed the only problems I had were the occasional light headache. My pee even stopped turning blue after a while. Not sure what was happening, it feels like my body just nignores things at times. I didn't even know it was affecting my serotonin, so I was convincing myself that it was putting me in a good mood.
I see why experienced Peaters don't treat it as a hard recommend. -
I used 5 to 10mg per day for about 10 days to deal with a positive result for Herpes Simplex Virus 2. It's too much of a hassle because you are supposed to avoid foods that mess with serotonin like coffee, artisan cheeses, chocolate, milk while taking MB.
For most of us the pee turns blue at 5mg and that's something Haidut has also mentioned.
MB can prevent the degradation of serotonin so yes, I don't think high doses every day are perfectly safe. Best to take just a little bit and let it build up if higher doses in tissues are needed.
-
@CO3 Why do you think people should stay away from it? Could you elaborate?
-
@tea Just because most people take it very irresponsibly and think it's cool or something
-
@Lothric the big 2.5hr masterjohn vid concluded that 8mg was likely the top end of benefit via hormesis. 8mg total. Have found immense benefit using 3mg myself to deal w covid. Does keep me up if I take it later in the day.
-
@CO3
I for one absolutely enjoy taking it for how cool it is. And the risk just adds an edgy danger factor to it. Do you think it would be half as appealing if it came in innocent gelatin capsules that grandma keeps in a cupboard next to the probiotic dinosaur gummies?...but on a more serious note, one's wallet should be reason alone to ration the stuff, and indeed I've found myself only taking small amounts in the morning for an energy boost and nothing else, as much as I'll miss the vivid dreams.
Also why are you supposed to avoid chocolate and milk with it...? I was putting it in my 24oz milk smoothie the entire time.
-
@Tahodama
Several times i've read that milk reduces the effectiveness of many or most medicines, and to take them at very separate times.Whether and how much it may reduce the effectiveness of MB i have no idea, but it may be something to consider.
-
@Tahodama specific thing that's in milk and cheese. forgot the name.
-
@CO3 tyramine
-
@onliest
Ah, looking it up now. Yeah that explains it. I'm also reading that pasteurized dairy (both present in my smoothie and cheesecake) are low in tyramine, which explains why I didn't feel any symptoms of high BP. I was also taking ~1g of aspirin before bed which may've helped.
Still intrigued I didn't notice any drastic changes in my hormone profile. Or maybe I'm just horribly unobservant. -
Thinking of starting supplementing Methylene Blue as I'm having some low blood oxygen issues. Anybody have some useful info on what would be a good daily dose? Thanks:)
-
@Erika I'd start with 1-2mg and avoid other MAO inhibitors to be safe.
-
@Lothric wow that is a really high dose. I started taking it last week (took one bottle from the lab at Uni) and just 3 drops are enough for me to feel the nootropic effects. The other day I tried taking like 9 drops through the day and i started peeing blue-ish green, so I wouldn't recommend taking that much as you can feel the effect with 1-2 drops in like half liter of water.
Anyways I'm a rookie with Methylene blue it's just my opinion analysing the start of my usage.
