I'm stating the obvious here but think it's worth stating as 'milk makes you fat' seems a common belief. If you're eating a complete diet and add milk you will probably gain weight, if the milk replaces other food sources you shouldn't get fat. An extreme example is that if I only drink whole milk for my calories and don't eat anything else, I don't don't get fat.

RE: Can I replace water with milk?
It's quite an open ended question, you would get more of all the things milk provides of course, which would have various effects. I assume you're asking whether you would be adequately hydrated as that is the main reason people drink water. There was a study I recall which found milk was better for hydration than water or sports drinks, measured by urine output.
I know if I'm drinking a lot of milk I don't crave water at all, and probably get more water from the milk than if I was just drinking water.

This is a great interview with Ray Peat on the topic of milk.

RE: Crave milk after eating
I find I get this when I've been drinking a lot of milk. To me it seems that milk is such a nutritious food in such a bioavailable form, that when I have a solid meal after drinking milk throughout the day, my body then misses the nutrition of the milk and craves it.

RE: Peat's 50g of protein per day-- Breast Milk Mimicking Diet?
I think when Ray was experimenting with low protein, he was eating high carb, lower fat.
That's not to say that's ideal. He's also said up to 50% fat as calories could be ok. Also that around the same percentage for each macro is probably good. As far as I know he hasn't really recomended any fixed macros.

Seasonal Changes in Milk
As an adult I've been drinking milk fairly regularly for a few years now, it's mostly tasted the same but have noticed sometimes I would have some milk which was delectible. I've also had very weird tasting milk which a few times was on discount, implying the supermarket knew something was off and still sold it.
I've read before that milk during Spring/Early Summer is the best, due to the fast growing grass and cows being put to pasture. I'm now a believer in this as have noticed quite a stark difference this year. When thinking about it, we've had a lot of rain over Winter and Spring, then recently drier sunnier weather, meaning the ground has started to firm up enough for cows to be out in the fields without creating mud baths.
Has anyone also noticed milk tasting better at this time of year?

RE: Peaty hiking/camping meals
When I go wild camping I usually take powdered milk, dried fruit, dehydrated potato slices, oats, honey, instant coffee and salt.
A block of creamed coconut is also pretty good, very filling and satisfying to add to a cooked meal after a day hiking.

RE: Best ways to slow time perception
Generally slowing down helps.
If for example if you hike, walking slower and paying attention to your surroundings rather than quickly walking by. Another example is eating more slowly, chewing throroughly, tasting the food.
Meditation can slow down breathing and the mind, which can have the effect of slowing down perception of time. The psychedelic subtances can have a similar effect on the experience of time, but they're more unpredictable.

RE: Welcome!
Hi everyone,
I was a member of raypeatforum.com but hadn't logged on in a while, I was initially surprised to see the current state of the forum, but perhaps it was bound to happen.
Anyway, it's great to find this place. I love the forum layout, especially that we have topics for Philosophy, Consciousness etc. I think Ray would be happy to see this place.
Thanks to the creators of the forum and everyone else for being here.
