RE: /BBG/ - BODYBUILDING GENERAL
@Τιμόθεος Yes. You should seek to up your metabolism and put on muscle mass and raise your baseline metabolic rate until fat loss becomes a secondhand effect, you shouldn’t have a mindset of “cutting”.
I would argue our food supply is so bankrupt of nutrients and that we vastly underestimate the caloric needs of muscle tissue, that “bulking” may be the only way to cut, assuming plentiful exercise and sleep.

@sphenoid Yes, I’ve been there before. Miserable state, that can go on for a long time unrealized when you bank on willpower/stress hormones. Hope to save many from this fate!

@sphenoid Lovley write up. Last two sections emphasizes why bioenergetics are crucial. I’ve done online coaching for years and 80% of advice I have ever given in regards to diet ended up being “eat more.”
Muscle is a very, very high energy tissue to maintain and grow. Having metabolic inefficiencies is like putting out a net into a stream where the desired end result is having the highest possible number of fish at the end of the stream.

RE: Weird energy drop hours after eating starch or fiber
@API-Beast I’m unsure. I know for myself, cooking rice pilaf well in bone broth was great for quick, digestible starches with no blood sugar “crash” feel. Same with jasmine rice and sweet potatoes.

@TheWhiteMountain I find it to be accurate, in that intensity is the primary stimulus. Best evidenced in sprinting v. running v. jogging. When I see the types of routines though, I wince, as there is so much time off, so much rest. This would force me to spend time out of the gym, and even to socialize.
And that, I will not do.

RE: how to increase me metabolism ?
@erva-mate low-ish fat. Saturated fat is a great buffer against many metabolic ailments and I personally try and make sure I’m getting fat every 6 or so hours. Coconut oil if not (trusted) animal fat from beef/dairy.
But yes, it is correct to have that be the limited macro when trying to lose fat. But, is a balance..

RE: Weird energy drop hours after eating starch or fiber
@API-Beast Seems to be an issue of motility, fiber and starch being a delay on your digestive system. Digestion is an energy intensive process, and although the rise in blood sugar gives you energy, you tend to feel depletion by the end of digestion, sort of a “borrowing energy from the future” tax from digestive exhaustion. Looking at the starches that work and don’t work for you, it sounds like you are in America, where the starch supply is.. “sus.”

May be better to spread meals/snacks with different energy sources such as fruit juices, honey, and milk if you can get a good source. Even things like maple candies. Meals can be soups, meat + better digested fruits + carrots, etc.
