I need to hydrate my face. I believe I have a systemic fungal issue that I'm working on. I gave up on creams and lotions long ago and have bounced around using every oil out there, and now every oil I use I end up getting small irritation or red patches or blackheads/pimples. I have extremely dry skin so when I use nothing my skin is clear but super itchy and flakey and tight.

@nothingclever I made some methylene blue mixed in tallow, coconut oil, honey, and beeswax and its amazing. healed some long standing acne scars on my face. yuka is a good app to check products for poison if you don't feel like making it yourself.

@samson thank you. I’ve tried tallow in the past and it was greasy and led to breakouts. And I like coconut oil in the summer for my body to deal help with sun exposure but it also makes my face break out. I’ve used honey as a face wash and mask I’m the past and it’s great but pretty drying

Additional info: I’ve found Squalane oil (specifically derived from sugarcane, the olive ones clog pores) to be the least irritating and pore clogging but it offers little help with dryness, as I have to use a lot and have to reapply to combat dry flakes and tightness, and then I end up super shiney and still kind of dry. I drink salted water and fruit juice and broth so I’m internally hydrated. I’ve tried the oil cleansing method but seems to irritate my skin so now I’m just washing with filtered water

@nothingclever, have you tried products containing urea or adding a low concentration of urea to your homemade formulas? Urea is unique in that it exfoliates and moisturizes. If I’m not mistaken, the Ray Peat inspired skincare line Saturée has at least 2 products containing urea. Another thing to consider is your thyroid function. Dry skin is a common symptom of hypothyroidism.

@nothingclever I made my own balm with lanolin, talow, propolis, beeswax, coconut oil and cacao buter. The lanolin helps with very dry skin, irritations and cracked skin. I don't think it'll help with blackheads though, they're more of an internal issue I believe.

@Jennifer I second this, it’s a great product, a little pricey but it sounds like it’s worth it in such a situation. Good luck.

Perhaps a simple sulphur soap would help? I think alternating between this and tallow soap would be good.
