Whenever I do french presses or shoulder presses I get this weird feeling in my elbows. Like the tendons are ripping (maybe like a guitar string getting pulled?) Why is this and what to do against it?

i think i has this at the start of my lifting journey its called ulnar nerve snapping. stretch your neck & do some flossing of that nerve by holding your arm out and then pulling your hand down at your wrist. mine went away when i isolated and grew my triceps with pushdowns and dumbell frenchpress for a few years. you need to overload your triceps and force them to grow so there is more tension on the actual triceps muscle and not on that joint/nerve.

Had something similar when I started lifting as well. It seemed to only happen when I did dips, so I stopped dipping for a while. Once I got a bit stronger, it went away. I'd just avoid exercises that cause it for a while or vary the weight/rep ranges so it doesn't happen, then revisit the exercises in a month or two.

@Chud Thanks. I went 5lbs more with french presses today and it was less discomfort than last time. I can feel it in the stretch as well good tip thanks.

something similar used to happen to me, it was due to my scapulae being badly postured. Took months of PT but now I'm better.

Make sure you warm up enough, and engage the muscles with perfect form.
Here is a good shoulder warm up routine:
