Okay my own take on this, if you want to do something in a non-stressful manner you must find some kind of enjoyment in it. Consider that the body doesn't free up energy for an activity unless it sees some kind of reward in doing so. Rational "I need to do this" only gets you so far and the reason why it is stressful is because it's a learned behavior from when I was hypothyroid and genuinely couldn't get things done without stress hormones at all. External rewards do work, but it's best if you find something enjoyable in the activity itself because that will help you out long term.

I realize Scott Adams may be too much of a normy for this forum, but I think its worth sharing his philosophy that I've just stumbled upon: Systems over Goals. While I don't know enough about it to say I adopt it, the premise to me sounds a lot like the age old, "it should be about the journey, not just the destination". When it's only about the goal, a degree of tension and dissatisfaction exists until the goal is fully achieved; when it's about the journey, the process of a System to use Scott's terms, it's like micro-dosing the goal-reward satisfaction daily, instead of holding out for that far-off, single point of victory, once the goal is reached...if it ever is. I can't think of any specific quotes, but this seems Peatish to me.

Rest in peace Scott Adams 🙏

His systems over goals lesson changed my life. Used to listen to his morning show every day.

@Mossy that’s actually the same as what many coaches teach and the core message of the Bhagavad Gita . doing things for the joy and not the results promotes abundance flow . its high vibration to do things for fun not for specifically getting something

@sunsunsun Interesting. It does seem those in the East are not as neurotic as those in the West. That probably has something to do with it. We tend to be extremely goal oriented, in a secular, self-destructive way, not in a let-it-be, don't force it kind of way.

P.S. I'm guilty of generalizing with my comments. Of course there are what could be called good and bad ways of implementing both East and West philosophies and principles. And degrees of this.
