Would love suggestions for smelly armpits. I have tried every natural deodorant under the sun and they now all seem to make my armpits irritated and sometimes break out in a rash. I believe I have some systemic fungal issues that may be contributing to this, which I'm working on. I've used just lemon with some success though it burns a bit.

@nothingclever topical application of androsterone improved my natural odor greatly, even after I stopped using it. I suspect that stress hormones mediate smelly pits in some way, when I feel good I smell good. haven't used deodorant in many months and I ask my friends frequently to tell me if I smell, they say they never noticed anything.

@nothingclever Perhaps some anti-bacterial essential oils (eg tea tree) diluted in a suitable carrier oil that doesnt cause issues (Olive? Coconut? Jojoba?)

Milk of magnesia works for me as a deodorant.

@samson interesting. I’ve never heard of androsterone so I’ll check it out. I agree that when I’m relaxed I have no noticeable smell and when I’m anxious I stink

@wrl thank you. yes I’ve used that effectively in the past but most oils feed seb derm and fungal issues so I’m looking for alternatives.

@happycat I’ve heard this from many on the RP forum and haven’t tried so I’ll look into it. Thanks

@nothingclever I use some organic vodka on on old hand towel and sprinkle a small amount of baking soda where the towel is wet with the vodka and wipe that paste/solution into my armpit. Works great all day.

@evan-hinkle gnarly. Right on. Baking soda gives me a rash, hence why so many natural deodorants are a no go for me

Niacinamide is a potent antifungal that you might consider using instead of baking soda.

@nothingclever it did for me too, and I started using what has to be a 64th of a teaspoon, (maybe less). Just a slight dusting. No rash anymore for me

I have been using baking soda on my armpits for almost a year and it takes away the smell so well.

In the UK I've been using Fussy Deodorant and it's very effective.

Was this smell the result of using the combination of vodka and niacinamide?

I think you’re right to suspect an underlying reason for your smelly armpits. I notice a difference in my scent, depending on my diet and medications—I have no scent while taking antibiotics. On animal-based and starch-based diets my scent is musky but on a fruit-based diet, its sweet. I’ve done backpacking trips that involved intense climbs where I was sweating profusely and even without bathing for a week, all I and my companions could smell on me was a faint scent of melon. I was consuming a lot of cantaloupe during that time. lol When I still needed deoderant, I used witch hazel. I have sensitive skin and all other natural deodorants I tried like baking soda and magnesium caused irritation and rashing.

@DavidPS I just put topical niacinamide on my nose with water and it smelled bad.
