      Soap from tallow

The further society drifts from the truth the more it will hate those who speak it.

@Cearrson yeah I’m in the same boat. Mostly just a hot water guy. At times when needed i use apple cider vinegar as a shampoo and then baking soda as conditioner. You don’t need much of either. A tablespoon or more. And your scalp and hair has never been as clean as doing this method. Definitely don’t need to do this every day.
I have beef tallow bar soap around for guest and myself. Kirk’s unscented pump soap is great too.

You don't really need anything for the hair, just water is enough for it. Shampoo just strips the hair of oils, which makes the body just produce even more oil to compensate. If you have been a long term shampoo user it might take some time to down-adjust the oil levels again. But generally shampoo isn't really all that great for the hair.

I literally use goysoap called "Irish springs". boutique soap is like $10 a bar. not finna paying that. Dove seems alright too but something about the artificial colourings and scents in the super cheap soaps makes me feel fresh and clean.

I used to make my own soap from coconut oil and tallow. It's easy and fairly cheap, but my wife was annoyed by the oils taking up cabinet space and having to leave bars of soap out to age for a month. Now I just use Everyone 3 in 1 body/hair wash. It's got less questionable things than most. I also tried not shampooing my hair for around 6 months, but it never stopped being greasy so I eventually gave that up. I'm just naturally very oily, and my sweat has always smelled really strong. I decided stinky and oily was not for me.

Better than Tyler Durden's soap in Fight Club.

LOL I went through a no-poo phase too and never got the wonderful results other long haired ladies claimed to get. I tried baking soda and apple cider vinegar and that got rid of the grease, but my thigh length hair started breaking off at my shoulders and the vinegar smell stuck with me for days after washing my hair. Never again.

@Cearrson, I use a cleanser made from soapberries, but it isn’t cheap or widely available, however, castile soap is. There’s also a liquid African black soap by the brand Alaffia that I’ve seen at Whole Foods, Walmart, Target and online retailers like Vitacost. It’s cheaper than a basic, liquid castile like Dr. Bronner’s—it averages $13 for 32 oz—and the ingredients are solid—African mint extract, lauryl glucoside, saponified shea butter and palm kernel oil (Fair Trade and Orangutan safe).

Hair: I’m at the point of only using hot water now. I used to have really oily hair when I used standard shampoo. Transitioning from that, corn starch worked decent as a dry shampoo (I’d still rinse it out at the end) but it was messy and took a while for the corn starch to soak up all the oils.
Vinegar rinses left too much lingering smell, sometimes even after following up with baking soda. Baking soda alone seemed to strip my hair and have it extra frizzy. That was likely a result of the alkaline pH, as mammal hair tends to do better with slightly acidic pH. Now, hot water alone seems to have it at an optimal amount of natural sebum.

Body wash: I usually only use hot water in the shower too. I made my own bar soap with coconut oil, olive oil, and palm oil. If I need it, I’ll use it, but usually it’s unnecessary. Washing off sweat and bacteria doesn’t seem to be aided by a surfactant; put into other words, soap doesn’t do anything to “clean” your skin if you don’t have outside dirt and oil present. Hot water is enough to keep me smell-free (I have people that would tell me.)
Washing the skin with soap also seems to disrupt the body’s Vitamin D production/conversion process. That makes it seem to do more harm than good imo.

Hand soap: I made my own liquid soap with the same above ingredients (different hydroxide base used for liquid,) and glycerin. Great for dishes too. I use an emptied out Dial soap bottle with the foaming dispenser head because homemade liquid soap (like Castile soap) can harden in the air and clog the nozzle. Foam head fixes this.
