Interesting study using NMN on wild boars. Benefits on sperm health, testosterone + increase in OXPHOS.
Effect was at least partly SIRT3 dependant.

HED of 100mg was somewhat effective but taking in all measures I'd go for the 200 or 400 mg dose as they were more effective.
Although the effect of 400mg wasn't a lot more pronounced on many variables.

"...improved the antioxidative indexes and increased the levels of testosterone (p < 0.05) in serum. Furthermore, NMN upregulated the protein levels of sirtuin 3 (SIRT3), antioxidation and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), but downregulated the protein levels of apoptosis in semen. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38790612/"

NMN increases butyrate producing bacteria and Akkermansia as well as the thickness and permeability of the mucosa . It also affected bile acids a lot.
        https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34395502/

That's tricky to derive an adequate HED from because of the non-linearly dose-dependent effects: The treatment group G2 (0.2mg NMN/mL drinking water) is the odd one out and clearly deviating from the control, the lower-dosed G1 and the higher-dosed G3 and G4 group wrt to most markers. G2 even showed lower body weight gain, i.e. stunted growth.
The authors focused on G1 vs CON comparisons without addressing that odd G2 group.

              Iodine against lung infections
              Respiratory infections
It is well established that iodine has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against bacterial, viral, fungal, and protozoal pathogens and has been used as an antiseptic for the prevention of wound infections for several decades. A 2021 article in Ear, Nose & Throat Journal, published an in vitro study by Pelletier et al establishing that nasal and oral povidone iodine (PVP-1) solutions are effective at inactivating SARS-CoV-2 at a variety of concentrations after 60-second exposure times. They concluded that the formulations tested may help to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 if used for nasal decontamination, oral decontamination, or surface decontamination in known or suspected cases of COVID-19 (8).
Pelletier’s study was duplicated using a different iodine formula known as Essential Iodine Drops (EID), which is a derivative of fulvic acid complexed with molecular iodine (I₂) at a concentration of 200 mcg/mL. The SARS-CoV-2 virus was exposed to EID in vitro for 60 and 90 seconds and in both cases, the viral load decreased by 99% (9).
Nasal goblet and ciliated cells within the respiratory epithelium have the highest expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the main receptor for COVID-19. The mechanism of action of PVP-I and EID as a mouth rinse and nasal spray targets the ACE2 receptor for inhibition. It diminishes the ACE2 receptors in the lymphocytes of the mucosal tissue, reducing the concentration of SARS-CoV-2 shed into saliva and nasal fluid (1).
Although 10% PVP-I solutions had been previously tested against human coronaviruses SARS-1 and MERS, these solutions are unsuitable for use in the nasal and oral cavities at commercially available concentrations. Diluting this 10% solution to a 1% solution allows for use of PVP-I in the nasal and oral cavities. Solutions as low as 0.5% PVP-I have been found to be effective at appreciably reducing SARS-CoV-2 in vitro (2).
The use of oral potassium iodide (KI) in the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was studied in lambs, as they respond similarly to this virus as infants. As mentioned above, iodine supports oxidative pathways as part of an effective immune response. Iodide can be concentrated in the nasal mucosa after oral iodide administration and integrates into the oxidative system that generates hypoiodous acid (HOI), which has potent microbicidal activity against bacteria and viruses, including RSV. Overall findings indicate that the use of high-dose potassium iodide (1.7 mg/kg body weight) in vivo lessens the severity of RSV infections through augmentation of the mucosal oxidative defenses (3).

Giving testosterone with an aromatse inhibitor reduces mounting behaviour.
Maybe that explains why androsterone another aromatase inhibitor kills libido for so many guys. Estrogen seems to be necessary to some degree.

“Estrogen’s name, derived from the gadfly, accurately suggests its role as an excitant, getting things started. Progesterone’s name, relating to pregnancy, is compatible with thinking of it as an agent of calming and fulfillment. But these properties show up in every aspect of physiology, and the special cases of female estrus and pregnancy can be properly understood only in the larger context, in which, for example, progesterone is a brain hormone in both sexes and at all ages, and estrogen is an essential male hormone involved in the sperm cell’s function and male libido.” ~Ray Peat, PhD

@Mauritio i got a powdered one took some time to get. no noticeable improvements so far. in the feeding studies 60d worked better than 30d (both worked well) so there's some time buildup effect. but expected to notice something acute.
this one i have has some black dots mixed into the powder not listed in the ingredients. so some concern considering it can be extracted from a mold. i guess if the mold is dead it could still trigger inflammation?
i tested it in some 6% h2o2 liquid and it fizzed like fuck so the white powder is legit (can do that with some potato slices too much milder response)

Same wondered if it would be good for that, i started putting it on one side of hairline curious to see if it creates regrowth. putting in a bit of glycerine

Colostrum. Reduces and prevents upper respiratory tract infections, flu:

Jones et al[21] reported significantly decreased URTI symptoms and episodes in athletes receiving BC compared with the placebo group.

                                      • "COL limits the increased salivary bacterial load in physically active males during the winter months which may provide a novel mechanism of immune-modulation with COL and a relevant marker of in vivo (innate) immunity and risk of URI. "

Cesarone et al[22] reported that BC reduced flu episodes, and suggested that supplementation with BC might be more effective than vaccination against influenza virus.

                                      • "After 3 months of follow-up, the number of days with flu was 3 times higher in the non-colostrum subjects. The colostrum group had 13 episodes versus 14 in the colostrum + vaccination group, 41 in the group without prophylaxis, and 57 in nontreated subjects. Part 2 of the study had a similar protocol with 65 very high-risk cardiovascular subjects, all of whom had prophylaxis. The incidence of complications and hospital admission was higher in the group that received only a vaccination compared with the colostrum groups. Colostrum, both in healthy subjects and high-risk cardiovascular patients, is at least 3 times more effective than vaccination to prevent flu and is very cost-effective."

                                        Rev-erb

Great post by tyw on rev-erb and macro nutrient timing. He was doing the honey diet before it was a thing. @serotoninskeptic

Seems like rev-erb controls steroid production to a degree as well. It increases some of the most important steroidogenic enzymes, at least in vitro.

It doesn't just control the circadian rhythm but also body temperature, which also seems to have a daily rhythm .

@Mauritio interesting intuitively i noticed eating high carb only meal as last meal doesnt hit right , after pm rise in stress

and i was thinking, it probably exists to increase thermogenesis when the sun is set, with fats being better at that , matches your last part (wouldnt match the mice tho with active time at night, maybe for if they stop moving as much then)

serine has effect on resetting circadian rhythm

Very interesting! I didn't know he had posted about it.

Ironically those on Kruse's side say that breakfast should be high in protein and fat.

I used to think that consuming most carbs during the day was great just for the increased presence of red/infrared from the sun, I didn't really need another reason (but good thing there is).

Ps.: Now that I've seen that you're the metabolic_monster on x
