      @oliveoil

      As I was using my old-school CASIO FX-300MS calculator, I realized that it was basically exactly what I was looking for. If only my desktop worked like it did.

      I tested it out at, unsurprisingly, it has no backlight. The screen is invisible in the dark.

      If only they could make desktops like the old handheld calculators. Would be extremely cool and retro.

        My Dasung Paperlike e-ink monitor is going strong after a year of daily use. I still love it. Switching to e-ink was a great decision!

          @Insr I am weary of it after reading an independent user's experience on reddit of the Dasung Paperlike e-link monitor:

          "I was very surprised by a feeling of dry eyes the evening I received the monitor and used it with front light. Measuring the flicker with Opple Light Master shows the reason - it's unfortunately flickering at a very low frequency, probably due to PWM. While DASUNG claims that this monitor is good for eye health, the lightning system used in front light for sure isn't. You can choose between warm, cold or mixed colour temperatures and all flicker in the same way. "

          Besides it is darn expensive.

            @tubert I never use the front light - I'm sure it's some kind of LED, and LED light shall not touch my eyes!

            I got mine on ebay used for $550 I think. For how much I like it, I'd pay thousands!

                Very interesting post. Did you know there are e-ink phones like Hisense A9 where you can install Google Play apps? I want to buy it, it will be the best decision since I need only the company app. I am so excited to have a day with 0 screentime. Back when I had a dumb phone I was the happiest but my job required one 😞

                  I believe it's the Dasung Paperlike 3 HD-FT 13.3" with touch screen.

                  I hope it works for you! Not sure if you'd need cell coverage, but if I remember correctly the Hisense A9 often has bad cell coverage in the US. As far as I know, there wasn't any e-ink phone that reliably worked in the US until this one came out: (it's an android smartphone)

                  There's a working E-ink phone out now, with a physical keyboard too! (i hate touchscreens)

                    Yeah, sadly its a bit expensive isnt it?
                    is there any way a root app that may decrease blue light completely? or is it the screen itself that fucks up your brain?

                      'bedtime mode' (only the greyscale switch turned on, all other 'digital wellbeing' crap disabled and permissions removed because it's a google app) and 'night light' (high intesity) used together at a low brightness are a pretty good e-ink imitation. And they both have quick settings buttons on android.

                      It's the content. Train on or ignore the shit.

                        @Androsclerozat I think it's the screen itself - can't be good to look INTO light for hours.
