But if I were a woman (and maybe I am), then I'm gunning for 20% because I want that athletic look that's really popular today. Yes, I'll look a little older in the face but it's worth it. I just don't like the muffin top you see on the 25% photo but you could make the case that 25% is actually healthier because us ladies are designed to carry a little extra fat.

RE: Over-methylation
@smok There isn't much I can add but if I had (or might have) a fatty liver then I would eat choline and maybe other methyl donors. Choline can help export fat from the liver.

"Adipose tissue retains an epigenetic memory of obesity after weight loss" (New study offers incite into the challenges facing people with a history of obesity - published in Nature)
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-08165-7
In summary, it remains unresolved whether individual cells retain a metabolic memory and whether it is conferred through epigenetic mechanisms. Here, we set out to address this by first performing single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) of AT from individuals living with obesity before and after significant WL, as well as lean, obese and formerly obese mice, confirming the presence of retained transcriptional changes, and, second, by characterizing the epigenome of mouse adipocytes, which revealed the long-term persistence of an epigenetic obesogenic memory.

what is ideal weight. ?
Hi. My opinion is that a target of under 20% BF is good goal for men and under 27% BF is good for women.
Getting that look may have some negative effects but that's where people should be if they can manage it. I'm not talking about the muscle. That you need all this muscle is just cultural pressure from the media. The 16-20% body type and that much muscle should be about perfect. But there could be some health benefits being closer to the 14% image. That's just my opinion though and there are always an incredible number of individual variables.

RE: Is a slowing pulse and lowered body temperature while dieting a problem?
@LucH I automatically track calories and for the most part remember everything I eat. I pull back on sugar because it stimulates my appetite.
Do you feel the lowered temperatures etc is more harmful than the benefits of being at an ideal weight?
Note: If you slow too much your metabolism, you won't be able to recover a stable weight.
I'm hoping exercise will prevent any permanent metabolic damage. It's a risk from my reading
I could maintain a higher temperature if I lose the weight slower but then I need to diet for longer and I want to stop dieting and eat a normal amount.

Is a slowing pulse and lowered body temperature while dieting a problem?
My morning temps are in the 96s and pulse is in the 50s as I'm approaching my ideal weight.
I was phobic about a pulse under 75 and temps under 97.8 but this sabotaged my weight loss efforts. I've decided to ignore the issue this time around but I"m still tracking it.

Good point. Safety hammers and oxygen alarms the new must have accessories for "smart" vehicles.
But that would let you change your mind.
