Here's a new study suggesting topical MUFAs cause regrowth of hair.

It's interesting that only MUFA promoted hair stem cells . SFAs were neutral and PUFAs destroyed them.

There was a study where lard regrew hair that could be the reason why.

It still seems to be downstream from increased ATP, OxPHOS and mitochondria (PHC1a)

So maybe pure oleic acid on the scalp is the way to go ?

Here's a new study on the same subject, also using oleic and palmitic acid.
They find again that both are effective at starting the anagen hair phase in mice.
They also tested lactate, which was ineffective ,although there were some mice who responded well.
They also showed that oleic acid did not stimulate inflammatory cytokines, while palmitate did. This rules out the "stress/inflammation hypothesis" of why oleic acid works.

      There's a few points worth mentioning :

      1. We've previously posted study on this thread showing the benefits of lactate for hair growth, this study shows that it inhibits it.
      2. In the other study on oleic acid and hair they said oleic acid induced OxPhos, here they say: ".. the onset of the anagen phase can be stimulated by locally suppressing oxidative phosphorylation in the skin."
      3. They said that some parts of the hair rely on OxPHOS and some on glycolysis. They cited a paper but I haven't looked in it.

They don't talk about oleic acid being more effective than palmitic acid, but the image clear shows it.
a+b = palmitic acid (3 days in between)
c+d = oleic acid (3 days in between)

I have received my pure oleic acid today. And started applying it already. It feels and looks quite different to olive oil. It smells more like castor oil and the consistency is more watery than I imagined.
It also burned when I applied it to my scalp although that was only where the skin was dry. And a quick Google search said that that's normal for pure oleic acid.
        Let's see how it goes.

        Dare to think.

Now I've looked at that paper and what I read is in line with what to expect.
In the hair matrix where the hsir cells are actually made, the body relies mainly on glycolysis. Those are some of the fastest dividing cells in the body, so they need quick energy.

In the hair matrix, where the cells differentiate, the hair relies on OxPHOS.

I myself are loosing a bit on the sides and likes to experiment. Now I am using a sort of helmet with red light and infrered hoping it will get the hairs to grow the fuck back

I'm interested in the oleic acid. I've been using castor oil when I mix an oil based topical.

@Mauritio I'm not on twitter, so I appreciate on follow your posts on here.

My hair fall is down massively and I've had undeniable temple regrowth, but it's hard to say why because I experiment a lot. I'm going to wait for undeniable vertex filling before I make any grand pronouncements.

A few of the possible reasons:
              Restarted coffee intake
              Oral CoQ10 intake
              1.5% topical caffeine
              topical luteolin
topical castor oil mixed with oil soluble antioxidants (usage probably too sporadic to be helping much)
topical procyanidin b2 (unlikely, been using for 14 months)

Whoops I didn't mean to distract the thread at all, I hope that was okay ^^
This thread seems to have become a hair growth mish mash.

@Mauritio it’s been three days, (although I assume three days for a rat is closer to three months for us). Anything worth updating? Any change in scalp feel, or any additional suppleness to the skin?

                      Is baldness actually athero-Androgenic alopecia?

There are anecdotal reports people regrow hair on heart drugs

@evan-hinkle hey. on the second day the feeling went from a burning to more of an itching and today it went to a slight itch.
Other than that I can't report anything.
Im also putting it on a small part of the back of my hand, to see if it stimulates hair growth there.
Apparently one of the researchers of the original study did this on his leg and it worked.

The oil is "only" 90% pure, so I'm trying to find out what the rest of the fatty acids are. Most likely palmitic acid (which would be ok/good), linoleic acid (not so good), and pamlmitoleic acid and stearic acid in small amounts.
The amount of linoleic acid could be between 1-4% , I estimate. I hope that's not enough to interfere with the process. The other fatty acids should be good /neutral.

                        Dare to think.

isn't 1 mouse day like the equivalent of 35 give or take human days?
This could be like the fastest acting outcome in a mouse study.

@LetTheRedeemed not sure about the number, but yeah they have a much faster hair cycle so obviously it wouldn't take 3 days in humans lol

So is it best to just put pure oleic acid on the scalp? No carrier oil?

I'm sure it's fine, the study where the guy used lard he still regrew lots of hair even though lard has higher PUFA. The MUFA benefits essentially cancel out the negatives of the PUFA I'm guessing. Pure oleic acid should be even better, no? Even if it has a small amount of other fatty acids.

@Hearthfire I have my wife on sourcing some pure oleic acid. She’s a soapmaker, so she has access to suppliers with things like this. If she comes up with 100% oleic, I’ll post a link.

@Mauritio i can't find the exact post at the moment, it was a random forum post on hairlosstalk

                                      here's the new theory:

                                      Introducing Cardio Androgenic Alopecia

The cause of baldness is heart disease

                                      1. Clear calcium from the arteries with Vitamin D, K2 and magnesium

                                      2. Clear plaque with Lysine, Proline and Acerola powder. Mix into 50ml bottle.

                                      3. Stimulate blood flow with Cayenne, Hawthorn and Red Sage Root Capsules
