i started wheel of time and actually stopped 50 pages into the first book and will be destroying the copy i have, the author was clearly hypo when writing this plodding mess with 30 characters to keep track of
i read crime and punishment a cpl years ago and honestly mostly forgot it, it seems boring

i havent read it in awhile but fondly remember g k chesterton’s the man who was thursday. really interesting

there are plenty of not well known books especially written for school age peeps which i recall fondly — whenever i read some lauded classic or contemporary work it is usually super gay and dissapointing. i spent like $50 on a paper copy of House of Leaves, and it’s honestly pathetic. id like a refund, realistically. i might just read books marketed towards young adults tbh. this search for high culture reccomendations is usually dissapointing

CS Lewis - Narnia, the Space Trilogy, and a bunch of philosophy/religion ones (the Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity are well known. The Discarded Image is very cool)
The Lord of the Rings, also read Tolkein's other works if you like (On Fairy Stories is good stuff)

Louis L'Amour (also a little annoyingly cynical and modern here and there but it's good on the whole)

The John Carter of Mars books by Edgar Rice Burroughs for strange sci-fi pulp fiction from the early 20th century
Holling Clancy Holling's beautiful and interesting books: Paddle to the Sea, Minn of the Mississippi, Pagoo, Tree in the Trail, Seabird, The Book of Cowboys, The Book of Indians.
"The War in the Air: The Royal Air Force in World War II" - this is a great anthology containing many accounts of WW2 action by the men involved, men who weren't lame like today! You could find lots of other books from the snippets quoted in here.
Why not read some old stuff for real power? Arthurian Romances by Chretien de Troyes, Gawain and the Green Knight (Tolkein's translation of it is good), Beowulf, The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Aeneid. Be sure to get good translations, the modern ones can be absolutely terrible.
And if you like GK Chesterton, he wrote an enormous amount - there's lots more! (most of which I have not read) You may also like Hilaire Belloc, his friend

if you want to go that route all literature is written by "cucks." Bolaño writes about this in a funny way. His books are hilarious but also very disturbing. Read Hemingway, he was a real manly man. Deep sea fishing, bull-fighting, drinking and dressing in drag. Very old school military type of writer. Psychological wreck. Read Faulkner. But most of all if you think most writers are cucks you should probably stop reading and do something real.

Have you read Schopenhauer? Have you read his On the four-fold root of sufficient reason? Have you read his critique of Kant? Or are you just parroting what others who don’t actually read the source material say about it?

You can read the source all you want. Just like in art, nothing in philosophy is original. Was he just parroting the four-fold path of Buddhism? Maybe Jung has more to say on this. Philosophy is as an art and an activity. Besides the pre-Socratics, Wittgenstein is really the only one who "awakened" anything of consequence for me. A lot of modern philosophers (post-Renaissance) are basically playing the role of sociologists or psychologists. Understanding man in society, or, the mind in man. Yes, it's both but none of this is new.

I don't know Sushi, sitting down and writing is basically hermitic - it's recoiling from life. Vitality entering the pen instead of the phallus, right? The "vitalist" or high energy non-doomer "writer" is one who does not write.
But in all honesty you should consider reading fiction from any of the fiction authors I mentioned. I don't read fiction very much anymore - I think we will agree that Peat has shown how much fiction exists within "non-fiction," science, and academic work.
