Silicon the dietary nutrient
-
I believe it was this protocol: https://bornfree.life/2024/protocol/
-
what supplenment do you suggest solves this?
-
@wester130 if this is a question for me, do you mean a supplement to cure post-viral syndrome?
The protocol I posted is not mine, I haven't even read it. But as mentioned in the OP of this topic, it says silicon deficiency could be involved in this disease.

As @Mossy points out above, Ray Peat saw silicon/e or silica in supplements as powdered glass. Also Pretty sure i heard or read him saying that silicon/e or silica that occurs naturally in foods is something completely different to that which is found in supplements. My own takeaway is to avoid any supplement containing it.

@otto said in Silicon the dietary nutrient:
Here is the brand that I chose. It claims to be a 1-year supply.
According to LLR, silicium molecule has to be small enough to be effective.
Dr. Willems has tested several sold silicium a long time ago. They are not all equal, to say the least.
Usful info:
When I type « silicium » on my forum I get 4 posts in the section « Traitements naturels et complémentaires »:- Silicium organique ou minéral ?

Extraits en Français (Translator needed) :
Extrait 1 :

Dr Jean-Pierre WILLEM. Epuisé.
https://mirzoune-ciboulette.forumactif.org/t865-test-silicium-dr-willems#8167
Translation : Only the first three are recommended.
Editor's note: There may be other products that appeared on the market later, but haven't been tested...
I use G5.

Apparently the Slovenian mineral water Donat not only has a whopping 1,030 mg Magnesium per Liter (as far as I know the most magnesium-rich water in the world by a big margin), plus 350 mg Calcium and 7,700 mg bicarbonat, but also 86 mg silica/silicon per Liter.
https://fine-liquids.com/en-us/products/donat-mg
Unfortunately very expensive to import to other countries. In Slovenia it's quite affordable. But if anyone wants to emigrate there, it's very beautiful.
Gerolsteiner has 40 mg/L according to the same source. Also a good amount.

BioSil and Silica G5 are not the same as silicon dioxide (the silica filler we talked about earlier).
They are specialized supplements designed to deliver bioavailable silicon for health benefits (like collagen support, hair, skin, nails, and bones), while silicon dioxide (SiO₂) is the inert, poorly absorbed form used as an anti-caking filler.
Silicon dioxide (filler): This is the same compound as sand/quartz.
BioSil and suppements: This is not silicon dioxide. The manufacturer starts with silicon from sand (SiO₂), but chemically converts it into orthosilicic acid (the natural, absorbable form of silicon found in mineral water and some foods).

Why G5 or the same sized molecule works at low concentration
G5 is not a dissolved mineral. It travels as a tiny particle — small enough to slip into a cell without needing a receptor or a gate. Once inside, its silicon surface is chemically reactive in a specific way that stimulates collagen production.
Think of it like a very small key rather than a large dose of a nutrient. The key doesn't need to be present in large quantities. It just needs the right shape to open the right door.
The "right shape" here is the unusual geometry of the carbon-silicon bond — which orients three reactive hydroxyl groups in a way that mineral silicon, dissolved in water as an ion, simply cannot replicate.
That's it. Small particle, right shape, gets inside, does a specific job.Silicon is not just a structural material. At the cellular level it acts as a biological catalyst for hydroxylation reactions.
Silicon also participates in:
Glycosaminoglycan synthesis — the gel-like molecules that hydrate cartilage and interstitial tissue
Elastin formation — the protein that gives arteries and skin their elastic recoil
Mitochondrial membrane stability — silicon-hydroxyl interactions help maintain membrane fluidity under oxidative stress
NB: Need a further development: Mitochondrial energy as a key mechanism to optimize recovery.
Mitochondria — the actual bottleneck of recovery
Every repair process that could be discussed — collagen synthesis, glycosaminoglycan production, elastin formation — is energetically expensive. It runs on ATP. And ATP is produced almost exclusively in mitochondria.
The mitochondrial inner membrane is where this production happens — specifically at the electron transport chain, a series of protein complexes embedded in that membrane. Their efficiency depends entirely on membrane fluidity and integrity. QED (CFFD, in French: What had to be demonstrated / proved).

Si bioavailability in human diet, e.g., strengthens bones and improves immune response, as well as neuronal and connective tissue health. Despite this empiric knowledge, the essentiality of Si still remains enigmatic.
