Is it safe to eat raw coconut meat, ground dehydrated or a coconut butter?

Now I don't eat as much because I'm testing very low-fat, but I used to like to eat shredded coconut with sugar in a 1:1 ratio, especially before going to the gym. I never had any problems.

@Insomniac I love raw coconut meat. I believe Ray said it can be irritating to the gut or allergenic for some. If it digests well for you go for it. Its high in saturated fats and even has some sugar/minerals. I was fruitarian around a year and raw coconuts were my main fat source. Without coconuts in my diet i felt unsatiated and fatigued. I believe @Jennifer has a similar story.

@Insomniac I remember seeing a post on RPF about Vedda communities in the South Eastern jungles of Sri Lanka who ate a coconut based diet and thrived with little to no heart disease.

For some reason, I have the intuitive feeling that you and Jennifer are the same person.

@RawGoatMilk88 Haha no but we do have a lot in common its shocking. If it wasnt for her recovery log on the old RPF i dont know where i would be today to be honest. It was very inspiring infact my biggest inspiration in my decision to overall quit veganism and try a raw dairy-based diet. The healing i felt after years of malnourishment is undescribeable.

@Serotoninskeptic
️ I’m sorry you could relate to me, but at the same time I’m glad you did.
If we’re the same person, can we be you this way I can finally reach the upper cabinets and pee standing up?And yes to coconut. It’s the only food that satiated me on the fruitarian diet. I consume coconut milk and young coconut meat regularly. I buy the coconut meat in bulk (18 lb) so my freezer is always stocked:

@Jennifer LOL Can we be you so that our hormomes fluctuate drastically throughout the month controlling our mood. Wait.. that does sound so fun
-
Am just going to add that mature coconut, from where coconut milk and VCO comes from (young ones have soft flesh and little oil) in high in phosphate and low in calcium.
So use and eat accordingly, and rein in any tendency to over-indulge.

LOL @Serotoninskeptic. I don’t even have mood swings when it’s “that time of the month” so no worries about fluctuating hormones.
@Insomniac, you’re welcome.
-
@Jennifer Thats a great sign you have some healthy hormone balance !

I'm positive I heard Ray mention a history of bowel cancer in Southeast Asian regions where coconut meat is consumed.
I could always be wrong, but for a testimony of one, I always had digestion problems when I would eat some healthfood snack with coconut meat
-
@LetTheRedeemed Yea i think he did say it could be irritating to the gut. I think he didnt recommend coconut flour for the same reason

Actually, it’s no different when my thyroid is struggling and my cycle is off. It’s more like self-worth and honest communication so I have healthy boundaries and don’t bottle things up inside that would lead to upset. Hormones only heighten my emotions or more like make me aware that something actually bothers me because I was taught to suppress my emotions and ignore my needs, similar to the average man who was taught by society the harmful belief that men are meant to be stoic and are disposable. The most “temperamental” people I’ve known have been men. If I’m not mistaken, suicide is highest among men, too.

If I recall correctly, Ray thought mature coconut (and even coconut sugar) was potentially allergenic. That’s why he recommended refined coconut oil over virgin. Even when I was reacting to most foods, I never had an allergic reaction to mature coconut, which I’m grateful for because it’s one of my favorite foods.
