Is a no starch diet sustainable?
-
Have any of you guys managed to design a no starch diet that is sustainable long-term? That eliminates the craving and downsides of starch.
I have poor digestion and starch causes me brain fog and anhedonia, when I go no starch, it's a noticeable difference. However, every time I tried no starch, I wasn't able to sustain it for one reason or another.
Currently, I'm eating beef, eggs, berries, honey, agave syrup. -
@GreekDemiGod Why was it not possible to sustain?
I haven't eaten starch in years. I lost the any craving for it, except when I smell freshly baked bread.
Now and then I tried it way back, but it never worked, bloating and bad skin. -
Easy.
Get your carbs from maple syrup, honey, milk, coke, OJ.
-
I think it’s sustainable if you have access to good quality fruits and live in a sunny region.
-
I've never been able to break away from starches. Are you rather muscular or heavier than average? Because I think that's a big factor in the cravings. I can load up on as much meat and fruit as I want, but my energy expenditure makes me crave more and more carbs and I inevitably include rice with my meal at dinner.
-
The problem isn’t starch in of and itself but the ability for the body to digest the starch.
In my experience, ensuring that it is eaten with proper macro and micro ratios allows for starch consumption without issues.
-
@GreekDemiGod probably if you had a moderate fat intake. Otherwise once you get past a certain intake of fructose, starch can be more appealing. I think that explains why some rat studies have bad results from fructose, there’s simply a limit where more glucose instead of fructose would be better. Doesn’t mean that glucose is better than fructose in principle.
-
@GreekDemiGod I did it for two years, so the answer is undoubtedly yes.

Dates too! If you're zero starch it's great to not worry as much about soluble fibre. Lots of fruit, rather than fruit juice, can be a smart move especially in the beginning. I
Non-fatty salty broths, with something like well-cooked zucchini (and maybe kale, you can remove the leaves themselves) can provide you with lots of protein and magnesium without overloading on fat. I drink red grape juice and skim milk for carbs, but have lots of dates, zucchini (having tons of this in winter!), cherimoya, oven baked apples to supplement the carbs. I eat basically the same which is variations of this hyper-gelatinous broth with the above mentioned carb sources. very little muscle meat, which fucks your digestion up too.

Yes. I am 180 lbs at 6ft, have some muscle.
The problem is I digest starch very badly. -
@GreekDemiGod try supplementing large amounts of magnesium bisglycinate at night. anecdotally helped me a lot with appetite. i make my own 00 capsules and take about six before bed.
-
Did you know that you can get people to be more cooperative with you/be more honest if you have the scent of freshly baked bread lofting around?
FYI in case you ever want to manipulate someone
-
I can get close to no starch by drinking pineapple juice and lots of coke. I get the organic pineapple from lakewood organics. I do eat croissants and cookies every so often though.
-
I want to try no starch soon since I've been a potato head for a long time and I'm tired of people calling me mr. potato head
-
@GreekDemiGod I’m doing this right now with the same experience, I’m eating loads of carbs from other sources but still feel hungry and lack energy. Though I had some potato the other night and it hit me like a brick! Felt the brain fog straight up.
-
@GreekDemiGod i always eat no starch, honey, milk, chocolate. With no starch you need to go moderate saturated fat. No starch is not sustanaible on low fat.
But didnt you hop into the low Vit A scam? -
@Shar_to_the_dae Same here with potatoes. I never digested them well, but I tried them after not having potatoes for years, and it was like a bad acid trip.
Once you are off starches, you will digest them even less well than before, because all the needed digesting enzymes (e.g. amylase) are downregulated. For your feeling hungry: maybe you are just not feeling full?
I ate a lot of starches years ago, and I always felt bloated. But thinking back on it, this bloating made me feel full and satiated, and I craved that bloating.
It may take a while to forget that craving.I noticed that when I got off starches, I needed a lot of very sweet foods to compensate. Nothing could be too sweet. But after a while my craving of very sweet things abated, and I don't enjoy very sweet things anymore.
That said: I always have a vanilla milk around: lots of milk, sugar, a bit collagen, vanilla.

@Razvan Daily starch gave me many negative effects, I couldn’t continue. So I’m not doing intentionally restricting VA that much right now.

@onliest how u ganna poo that would make me constipated

@GreekDemiGod hi, even rice?
