@urbrainonsugar Didn't realize you could do that with Chronometer, thanks. Will check it out

Temp/Pulse tracking app?
Can anyone recommend a good app for tracking temp and pulse readings? I use a spreadsheet but it gets tedious

RE: Best coconut oil?
@dt In general I think the more hydrogenated it is, the more it will be like fully saturated fat. Partially hydrogenated should be fine, as even unrefined coconut oil only has trace amounts of PUFA

RE: Best coconut oil?
@dt Peat recommended the refined, fully-hydrogenated kind iirc, as the residual starch in virgin unrefined can be allergenic for some. But the starch does add some coconut flavor, so if you tolerate it well and enjoy the flavor it's probably fine

RE: Why is the Ray Peat community so far right?

RE: Skinny/thin phenotype who can eat all junk food and not put on weight
There was this interesting study from John Speakman on "healthy underweight" people in China, which found they had higher circulating thyroid hormones, but also abnormally low appetite.
I think Dr. Peat is probably right that the "hyperthyroid" state (higher circulating thyroid hormones) is one way the body can compensate for magnesium deficiency.
Also, if resting energy expenditure is too high, it makes sense that you would have less energy remaining for physical activity. You could also be overestimating how much you eat.

Heart palpitations after eating
TL;DR: I get heart palpitations after I eat, which started while I was on keto/calorie-restriction. Wondering what the cause could be, and if anyone else has similar experiences or suggestions.
For several months now I’ve noticed my heartbeat seems much more forceful all the time, to the point of being uncomfortable. I’m almost constantly aware of it pounding in my chest, even when laying down to sleep at night. My pulse is somewhat faster than normal, but not in serious clinical tachycardia range (generally between 80-105 bpm). Symptoms don’t seem to be correlated to pulse though—my heartbeat still feels abnormal regardless. It tends to get a lot worse after I eat, to the point of feeling like heart palpitations. Eating larger meals and foods that are difficult to digest makes it worse. The intensity varies, sometimes hardly noticeable at all, sometimes I get lightheaded and short of breath. Usually continues for 30min-3hrs after a meal. I’ve tried various mainstream and Peaty approaches and I haven’t found a permanent solution yet. I did get an EKG exam from a cardiologist ruling out any serious heart issue, so I suspect it’s probably something related to digestion or endocrine function.
Some things I’ve found so far that help: eating more salt, eating smaller meals, drinking more coffee, and taking Progest-E. My symptoms completely went away for 48 hours once after taking Progest-E with a very salty meal, but they came back and I haven’t been able to replicate it since then. I think water retention could also be an issue, as I’ve noticed I tend to urinate more frequently and pass more solute since this started. T3 and cyproheptadine did not seem to help at all.
This actually all started shortly after an episode of severe insomnia while I was on keto last year, in which I sometimes physically couldn’t get to sleep for over 48 hours. I had also been on an extreme calorie-restricted high-protein diet and heavily using nicotine for some time before then. Obviously now I’m on a more Peat-inspired bioenergetic diet.
What I’m doing so far re: supplementation and dietary changes seems to help, but I’m interested if anyone else has any insights or similar experiences, and any suggestions for other approaches I could look into?

RE: Supplements that have ruined your health
When I was taking fish oil pretty heavily, I was passing so much in my urine it stank of fish and always came out cloudy
Even low dose DHEA gives me acne but taken with Progest-E + orange juice (for naringenin) it's still beneficial on balance

RE: Siggis Skyr - Cheese like yogurt - Cheap, low inflamatory protein?
@deadkaczynski I enjoy Siggi's as well, I've never had any issues with it. I know Ray cautioned against yogurt because of the lactic acid content, but Siggi's seems less acidic than other yogurts anyway. Chronometer says it has 145mg phosphorus and 150mg calcium per serving, so calcium:phosphorus ratio should be about 1:1

Liver marinade from Ancient Rome
I find liver very unpalatable, and just soaking it in milk didn't help. I found this Ancient Roman recipe for a marinade of milk, egg yolks, and mead, and it's the best way of preparing liver I've tried so far.
"Make a mixture of water, mead, eggs, and milk, in which thoroughly soak the sliced liver. Stew the liver in a wine sauce, sprinkle with pepper, and serve."
(From Apicius De Re Coquinaria)Instead I like to fry mine in butter with garlic and onion, and I serve with cream mushroom soup and mashpotato.

Ray Peat Interview, "On the Origin of Life"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhyJTLe8SNc
This is one of my favorite interviews of Dr. Peat that I often refer back to, on the topic of the origin of life, its fundamental nature, and its relation to energy. I believe it's one of the oldest recordings of him too, from January 2000. They also delve into some interesting conspiracy stuff about abiotic oil and such. I thought I would share it here for discussion in case some of you haven't come across it yet.
“The spontaneous polymerization that occurs under volcanic conditions creates substances with intrinsic functions. The living state is a substance that is always being renewed as it interacts with its environment, and from the larger perspective, it is an evolving catalyst that modifies the environment so that the whole system approaches equilibrium with the energy that flows through it. Since the evolving system stores energy in its structure, the cosmic energy sources and sinks are at the boundaries of the system, and are the only questions that (so far) transcend the issue of life in its environment.”

RE: Lose dose niacinamide frequency?
@MFF I tried dissolving 300mg niacinamide in water and sipping on it throughout the day when thirsty, at the recommendation of someone on the old forum. I think in experiments that have shown benefits from niacinamide supplementation, this is the method used for administering it to the lab rats (dissolved in water and drunk ad libitum). I found it caused mild hypoglycemia for me, but it seems to have worked well for others.
