Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
-
I’d love to hear thoughts on this… it’s pretty peaty unless there is something about the sugar used that’s not optimal that I don’t know about?
They used deoxyribose in a gel on the mice. It’s a natural sugar in animals and humans — it shouldn’t be dangerous…
EDIT: Danny did NOT say it increases NO. This is false

“Ribose sugar has a hydroxyl (OH) group at position 2, whereas deoxyribose sugar has a hydrogen (H) atom at position 2.”
-
So where do we buy it? I'm assuming it's not the same as D-Ribose that's on Amazon?
Didn't Ray Peat say something about sugar might be beneficial topically for hair loss? I remember this being discussed recently, either here or about a thread that was on the old forum.
-
@Hearthfire Yeah they're not the same and it takes a complex enzyme mediated reaction to convert D-ribose to deoxyribose from what I'm reading.
I recall Dr. Peat mentioning sugar being good for hair, but I can't remember the context.
I'm definitely interested in this development, I'll be looking into whether it's possible to buy it. So far I haven't found a source unfortunately -
Sigma-Aldrich has it, about $100 per 5g though
https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/product/aldrich/121649 -
Cheaper here https://www.caymanchem.com/product/29072/2-deoxy-d-ribose
Interesting snippet from their description:
"Topical administration of 2-deoxy-D-ribose increases blood vessel formation and accelerates wound healing in a rat full-thickness cutaneous wound model." -
@OliverCloasov Yes, but they won't let you order unless you are a business or lab.
-
@AinmBeo Ah you're right, unfortunate
-
@Hearthfire yeah d-ribose is different. I know, I forget what context he said that about, too - like topical or just higher consumption.
-
@OliverCloasov @AinmBeo @Hearthfire
I'm open to a group buy if anyone of us can find a supplier to private individuals.or, what if we all beseeched Georgi to make an experimental cosmetic in a one off batch and we be his guinea pigs?

-
@OliverCloasov it increases NO so according to danny roddy it is le bad
-
@LetTheRedeemed I'm open to it
-
@sneedful Interesting, did he elaborate on the mechanism and the degree?
-
@LetTheRedeemed Wonder what would happen if I bubble hydrogen through ribose infused water?
Found this on Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/RPI-2-Deoxy-D-Ribose-500-Grams/dp/B01N0X8O06
-
@sneedful dangit. in that case it could be working on hair growth thru the estrogen function: increase water retention, ie bloodflow
-
Anybody recall Peat's quote on sugar helping hair growth? was he talking topical? I wonder what topical glucose + ATP + Progest E might do.
-
This is so simple I could believe in it.
Thanks for sharing it.
-
I found this thread talking about it, from a podcast/conversation with Ray Peat and Danny Roddy titled
"Lost Conversations with Ray Peat #1: The Purpose of Hair, Luciferianism, and Obama as a CIA CreationLooks like that episode has been nuked off the internet by the censors. Probably for that title and the discussion content.
-
@Hearthfire brooo you came thru king.
I'm thinking a topical spray of glucose + a pro-energy substance like t3/niacinamide/aspirin!
-
@ThinPicking right? Now I'm even more excited to try Ray's suggestion of topical glucose.
