RE: Losing the Peatman Fifteen (25)
@splithead_ I would try to find a high maintenance calorie to stick with for a while. 2,300 just seems pretty low. Adding like 50 calories a week might be the approach to avoid too much weight gain. But it’ll be so much easier to cut after finding a high maintenance cal. Maybe add in some weight lifting and more walks but try to not cut out too many cals. And cut for 6-8 weeks at a time. Get in get out

RE: Trump/RFK’s health policy advisor may be a peater
It’s just the grifter grifting harder. Trump really needs to lose so we can move on. Dude has created a new level of political hysteria to where people will vote for the guy no matter what he’s done. Jan 6 indictment anybody? Really nobody cares?
He’ll get RFK to wake everyone up to big pharma and big ag! See he really is on our side!

RE: Thyroid not working - Low sodium and chlorine in blood?
You have to eat enough consistently. The body doesn’t want to increase metabolism without the proper fuel

RE: Prevent metabolic damage in extreme caloric deficit
I wouldn’t be in a deficit more than 8 weeks. And not a huge deficit either.
It sounds like the Minnesota starvation experiment all over again. Are u looking to lose vital organ weight too?
-
RE: Ideas/tips for insatiable hunger at night
Do u track calories to make sure you’re generally getting enough? I don’t believe our bodies lie when they tell us they need more energy. Even if someone’s very overweight there’s likely some energy deficit or blocks in energy production

RE: Halle Berry says she slowed aging with a 30+ year keto diet. Picture at age 58
@BroJonas But also how much do we really want to believe. It might just be for press.

RE: Halle Berry says she slowed aging with a 30+ year keto diet. Picture at age 58
There’s a quote from 2020 she’s been doing keto over 15 years. She intermittent fasts and just has bulletproof coffee in the AM. Works out 5 days a week. She’s physically fit, low body fat, and filthy rich. Also black don’t crack. Stephanie keto Person still looks relatively good at her age.

RE: binge eating
@Tarzan17 Likely nobody here is qualified to deal with treating those with eating disorders.
To me it sounds like your relationship with food is backwards. You have a right to live and a right to eat as much as you need. I don’t think people have ravenous appetites unless your body is in a low energy state.
Eating can be a chore but I DO NOT skip meals… ever. I cook and prepare meals all day constantly eating my meals. 3,000 cal a day for me. And I’m not extremely active. You have a right to eat, and restricting and fasting only lasts for so long. Your body tells you what it needs and it needs constant support from nutrition while you’re still alive and breathing.

RE: binge eating
3,000 used to be a typical cal requirement 100 years ago

RE: MTHFR - intense anxiety from methyl b vitamins
@AndrewPeatMatrix Do u eat enough on a regular basis? How many cals?
-
RE: Bout of Anxiety triggered by hypoglycaemia? Too much stress?
Fatty liver affects the livers ability to store glycogen which is necessary for blood sugar regulation. Also an unhealthy liver can impede on gluconeogenesis. Kinda recipe for blood sugar instability.
Just keep nourishing yourself well and I’d always have carbs within a balance meal. Maybe too much coffee here.

RE: Reintroduced Wheat - Confused With Results
@tk The pizza is a big source of energy that the digestive tract probably really needs. It’s not ideal but it’s better than nothing. Why not any fruit, dried fruit, or juices as carb source?
Also what’s your waking oral temp and afternoon sedentary temp if u don’t mind? I have a client with POTS and gastroparesis and is clearly high estrogen and low thyroid

RE: How bad is eccentric training?
Oh also purposely doing 5 sec concentric doesn’t seem necessary. Taking a set to failure there’s about 5 stimulating reps at the end. When the concentric increasingly slows down towards the end is when mechanical tension increases the most causing the most stimulus for muscle growth.
-
RE: How bad is eccentric training?
If you’re just doing one set I doubt the muscle damage from a slower eccentric will add up to much. And the benefit on the joints from not bouncing reps is great too.
I think people become slaves to the gym doing too many sets per muscle and end up doing more muscle damage than needed compared to stimulating reps and sets. U can literally do 1-3 sets for a muscle to or close to failure and get plenty stimulus to grow. Sure doing 8 hard sets for quads u may end up with a bigger pump but a lot of that is probably edema and more muscle damage to heal from than necessary

RE: Protein intake and carb: protein ratio for maximal muscle gain?
@GreekDemiGod Jay Feldman and Mike fave recommend a good amount of protein for clients around .6 to .8 grams per pound with a good source of glycine. It’s reasonable to me

RE: Low waking temp on thyroid
How many micrograms of t3 is that? Thats a heroic dose… I’d think adding t4 will carry you through the night better. And you wouldn’t need as much t3 during the day
-
RE: What does ray peat say about sweet tea?
I think black and green tea also has fluoride in it which antagonizes t3 some how. I still have it occasionally. Green tea has some good polyphenols that are good for the microbiome
