@honest_skeptic Maybe you're right. Although most of his theses are not really made out of thin air, and although some of his statements may be some kind of extrapolation, I do not consider this to be a significant problem. Ray Peat told us to "Perceive, Think, Act". Which we also do.

RE: Ray Peat - quack or genius?
How are carbs supposed to cause problems with insulin and weight gain? Explain.
Peat relies primarily on hard academic physiology. And this is a sufficient argument for the validity of his theses. All of his claims are supported by the literature. I am a medical student, and I consider most of his theses to be factually correct.

RE: Heightmaxxing
Calcium, zinc, magnesium, good sleep, DHEA, pregnenolon, potassium and sodium, ginkgo bilboa, aspirin (i think), rejecting PUFA, more sugar, and raw milk. Since I started using these things, I grew 3 cm at the age of 22. You can try it.

RE: High-dose Thiamine therapy

@Fructose @Dulkadir There is also a discussion regarding "saturating" the active processes with thiamine such that they upregulate their constituents. I'm really not sure why saturating an enzyme would cause upregulation instead of downregulation, but many of the seminal papers by Constantini and Lonsdale discuss this... i.e., there is an effect beyond simple "absorption" or "deficiency"—a biochemical shift of sorts; like tipping the ball over the homeostatic valley.
I agree with that. The theory of Constantini and Lonsdale is fascinating.

RE: Ray Peat was a Stalinist
I really sympathize with the characters of Lysenko and Stalin. It's hard to say whether Ray Peat was a Stalinist or not, but some of his statements seem flattering. I don't think it's bad at all.

How much water do you drink? Are you a teetotaler? Have you had your PSA and urine tested? Do you suffer from hormonal imbalance?

Hey all! Just got a new job with 40ish hours per week of screen time. Any suggestions on how to protect eyes. I know glaucoma runs in family.

Desk height, retinol, eye exercises, and sitting in glasses with an anti-reflective coating and blue light filter.

RE: High-dose Thiamine therapy
@Dulkadir said in High-dose Thiamine therapy:
does anyone know the absorption rate of thiamine hcl?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3293077/
,,Free thiamine is taken-up by the body by a saturable transport system in the proximal small intestine that was thought to severely limit the amount of thiamine that can be absorbed by a single oral dose [9-11]. For this reason, alternate forms of thiamine (S-acyl thiamine derivatives and lipid-soluble thiamine disulfide derivatives), that are more absorbable by the body, had been developed [12]. However, free thiamine may be taken-up by the body by both a saturable active transport system and a nonsaturable passive process. Thus high doses of thiamine hydrochloride may be absorbable."
,,Our study demonstrates that high blood levels of thiamine can be achieved rapidly with oral thiamine hydrochloride. Thiamine is absorbed by both an active and nonsaturable passive process."

RE: High-dose Thiamine therapy
I haven't tested it. But there are many studies confirming the effectiveness of thiamine in large, oral doses. I think it has to do with the immunomodulatory effect of thiamine (as a coenzyme), especially on TCA, the tricarboxylic acid cycle.

RE: PUFA in tissues
@RapexEat Biopsy of adipose tissue and/or analysis of fatty acid composition in serum can determine the amount of PUFA in tissues. Peat once mentioned that the half-life of PUFA in tissues is 600 days.

I also found such a study on PubMed.

RE: so what is snoring and how do i stop it
How old are you, what about your body fat, how is your nasal septum, do you smoke cigarettes, and what's your position during sleep?
I think it's largely related to the variables I mentioned

RE: Liquid Diet
@ofo I drink a lot of potassium, which I balance with a large amount of salt. It doesn't seem to me that it harms my kidneys. Before adopting this diet, I had an electrolyte imbalance.

Liquid Diet
A diet consisting of 90% liquids and 10% solid food has significantly improved my well-being and health, not only in terms of gastric issues. I consume 50g of beef liver daily. I take in large amounts of water and fluids (orange, apple, grape, pomegranate juices, milk, fruit cocktails, eggshells blended with kefir).
I struggle with Crohn's disease, and although I've managed most symptoms through Peat's methods, I still occasionally had gastrological problems, albeit not intense or dangerous, but significantly impairing my life. I definitely have less serotonin, I am calmer and more subdued. I consume about 4500kcal per day. I often mix raw eggs, milk, and butter/coconut oil.
Have you tried such a diet?
