@izkrov Fair, but actually the study compares all-cause and cardiovascular:

@Nabokov *links pravastatin to a lowered rate of cvd

Why are Statins bad if your cholesterol puts you in the range of CVD risk
Ray wrote about the false link between cholesterol and heart disease, but I just came across this study which conclusively links pravastatin to a lowered cardiovascular rate and the data and design look sound. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26864092/
There are many studies on the apparent efficacy of statins, this one isn't particularly special, but it does seem to prove that they work, which Ray disputed. Does anyone have a better understanding of cholesterol, CVD, and statins?

RE: The Final Solution
@brad very interesting to know about acetobacter action on glyphosate, but I thought lactobacillus was considered harmful/net-negative by Peat because of the lactic acid produced? Maybe sufficient acetobacter could negate this.. I'm only thinking back to him being quoted on rpf so I could be wrong but apparently he preferred s. boulardii? However I have no info regarding this claim

The Final Solution
I've had acne for the past 3 years. Each time I've gone on a course of lymecycline, it has gone away but upon completion of the course, it slowly returns. I am now getting a prescription for doxycycline, to try and eliminate this once and for all. I plan on eating bamboo, mushrooms and carrots everyday, alongside vinegar and occasional charcoal, in the hopes of nuking whatever pernicious and malicious microbes are stubbornly residing in my gut. Is there anything I could do in addition, to enhance the gut genocide? I am sick and tired of acne and it's almost certainly my gut which is responsible.
What probiotics are safe to take after I complete the antibiotics, to fill the vacuum left, and prevent any other problematic things from proliferating?

Level the mountains/Fill in the valleys
The presumption of potential is a core tenet of Peat's philosophy. From diseases dismissed as "genetic" or "incurable", to seemingly immutable character traits such as IQ, Peat consistently believed everything can be changed, fixed, improved. So it is fitting that he was a leftist in this sense, because he did believe in a Rousseau-ist "man is born free..", "criminals aren't born they're made", type of vision.
Once you have a system which not only dismisses being "born this way', but even analyses human biology to find connections between diet and thought, environment and attitude, where does that leave so-called "individuality"? With the identified factors completely controlled, and whatever number of generations needed, could you breed an Asian person from an originally African couple? Could the average African achieve a 140IQ with sufficient metabolic support, or at least could his subsequent child achieve this?
In a world of completely peated individuals, a world where there is no internal strife for inspiration to rise out of, would art or literature exist? Would the expression of the individual be of any concern to anyone? Yes, there is a transcendent element to the human spirit that has inspired a huge amount of culture, but in a peated world we would arguably be perfectly spiritually formed and therefore would have little need to "move toward" or "capture" the transcendent through art.
To out it simply, leftists today seek to level all the mountains, because they were born in the bogs. They see beauty and instead of admitting admiration, they seek to destroy it out of resentment. What would happen to human differentiation, of beauty or of any kind, if the reverse of this kind of destruction were achieved, namely; filling the valleys, raising the lowlands. Improving everyone. With the perfect diet, awareness and environment would the once short and ugly transform into beauties on long stalks? Would everyone become "equal"?
Apologies for this scattered and long-winded post, this is isn't very well fleshed out but I do want to know if other people have been thinking of this. I think there is an answer for the preservation of human hierarchy but it's not obvious through the Peat lens of looking at the world. A lot of people on this forum come from the BAPsphere, and believe in a rigid biological determinism. How can this be reconciled with Peats almost naive view of endless potentiality?

RE: Vaccines
@Andreas I have no risks or worries about any diseases, I am only forced to reckon with vaccines because I think my medical school will refuse to let me complete my degree if I tell them I will not get the full list of vaccinations needed to do clinical rotations

RE: Fragrances, scents, pheromones
@Pillman Do Son is beautiful, its mostly tuberose. Theres an 18th century legend that in the perfume region Grasse, young girls were forbidden to go out at night , when the tuberose flower blooms and emits scent, because the rich aroma would cause them to become lustful and indecent.

Vaccines
Disclaimer: This topic is not going to address the Covid vaxx, as it is too big of a discussion to squeeze into a conversation on "normal" vaccines.
What is the consensus here on standard vaccinations, such as tuberculosis, Hepatitis C, MMR, meningitis, diphtheria etc?
Vaccines contain adjuvants, added to increase the inflammatory immune response to the microbe, resulting in a higher amount of antibodies produced and, consequently, a greater immunity to the microbe.
These adjuvants seem to be the main cause of fear of vaccines, which is fair considering the list includes

Aluminium
This is constantly dismissed as cause for concern, as studies show no alteration of blood Al levels post vaccination, and negative reactions appear to be rare. However this study showed increase motor-cell death in mice injected with aluminium hydroxide, as well as dementia in the brain analysis https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19740540/
This study provides an analysis of the connection between aluminium exposure and autism and other disorders: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11011-017-0077-2?fref=gc#Sec2
However this all emphasises patients with a predisposition toward autoimmunity, disease etc. there are many studies that show Al adjuvants having no chronic effects on healthy patients.
I am suspicious of how Al can even be measured post vaccination, as it is taken up by cells, can form granulomas, and even cross the BBB. I reckon it's bad news but perhaps in a healthy, peated individual, the effects on neural cells and mitochondria might be negligible? -
Formaldehyde
Practically all major vaccines have it too. Listed as an ingredient but often beside the claim that the baby's body contains 60 times more formaldehyde than is in the vaccine shot, and that it is natural and needed for DNA synthesis
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264410X13004179?via%3Dihub
Finally, there are also vaccines which do not contain adjuvants as glaringly disturbing. The BCG tuberculosis vaccine for example, aside from the antigen, contains sodium, potassium and magnesium salts, glycerol and citric acid. Does this mean it is a "safer vaccine"?
I think I recall Ray being skeptical of vaccines, and I think it's obvious that they should not be taken without good reason. I am currently in a field which is putting pressure on me to take vaccines for diphtheria, menC, hepC and the like, and I feel quite torn as they do dont seem as obviously bad as the mRNA vaxx but they also seem potentially dangerous. The literature is obviously very conflicting, so what are all of your thoughts?

RE: Peaty jobs
@MB
I probably would have left med too if I had entered during pandemic, as the vaxx would have been non-negotiable then. I want to do medicine since it is interesting and challenging but the entire practice, such as the atmosphere and working conditions of hospitals worries me. You're right that it all hinges on your aspirations. Id be willing to work stressful and unpleasant medical position for a longterm payoff, I want to find something adventurous as the whole "begrudgingly work as little as possible to earn enough for the house and kids" depresses me. -
RE: Recovering from Bulimia need advice
@HoldenCox
Good to hear that. I am not aware of any issues developing a "tolerance" for thyroid, especially not if you are deficient as most people are. It would be worth doing research on the specific symptoms and measuring pulse and heartbeat, as well as dosage. Theres tonnes of literature posted on rpf, peat twitter and here. Supplementing progesterone is safe. Thyroid function improves after supplementation and I think you can safely start weaning yourself off high doses after just a few weeks. Very much worth investigating imo. -
Peaty jobs
Peat mentions the ideal job being one which allows for
- sunlight
- play
- environmental variety
- exploratory conversations
Which jobs fit this criteria? I am currently studying medicine and despite enjoying the material, I'm pessimistic about any medical career coming close to meeting this list.
