the rpf admin being an "absentee landlord" in the early days is true. really i don't believe there has been a fundamental change in character, the fella is just experiencing euphoria from having discovered the answer (yet again) and to the detriment of his own board is "participating" a lot more. crazy to think if the fella just stayed as the absentee landlord and spent all his time reading facebook health groups like he always did, there wouldn't have been a downfall.
as for your point about how the early days of the peat-sphere evolved into what the rpf turned into, yeah i don't understand it either. all i can conclude is the truly original posters either got banned or no longer saw value in contributing and it basically just devolved into a bunch of laggards theorizing about how the world will end.
this is typically true for any board, there is always a golden era where you have a handful of personalities providing unique insights, which is why a new board was a good idea even if there wasn't a complete meltdown on the rpf.
