@DavidPS hey, I'll try this and report back if it works. I had heard of NAC benefits, but I never expected it to be linked to reducing these issues.

Did Peat every comment on anxiety-associated behaviors like nail-biting, hair-pulling, pacing, tongue-chewing, etc.?
Just wanted to know if Ray ever mentioned these behaviors in any way. I have made good progress in not biting my nails or chewing my tongue these days (yes, I do all the things in the question) not the others though (still doing a lot of pacing and pulling out my hair unfortunately). But I wanted to know if there was a link between metabolism and these behaviors. I have improved my metabolism a lot but I still struggle with these things and need some ideas on how to completely stop these behaviors for good.
Any ideas would help a lot?
All these behaviors slowly started in early adolescence due to high stress from social situations in my life at that time. My weight-gain started at the same time as well. I've really improved my metabolism, but I don't know what to do to really move forward on conquering these behaviors for good as I've been improving my health...

RE: Serotonin makes colors and images dull and boring
@Sugarnotsnow I experienced this in a way that was super noticeable once. I worked at a coffee shop at the time, and I showed up tired and depressed and the colors just looked super off, like almost grayed out for everything that I was looking at.
I drank a iced coffee w/ milk and sugar, and it was like the colors turned on all at once. One of my most memorable moments years before peating that I recall distinctly. Night and day difference in the saturation of the colors around me before and after having a super peaty drink.

Reintegrating Starches (Peat Success Story)
I just wanted to report some thoughts on reintegrating starches, which I feel as though I've successfully accomplished.
At the beginning of this year, I would get super bloated when trying to eat rice, potatoes, and most grains and tubers, so I leaned heavily on fruit, fruit juices, milk and sugar to get my carbs up; however, I still felt like my diet was missing something.
I decided that it must be the starches, but I was still reacting badly to them. Through experimentation, I discovered that I did best with cassava and secondarily sourdough bread, so I incorporated that little by little on a regular basis.
But that was difficult to keep up with sometimes, since I would purchase cassava flour and use it with other ingredients to make pancakes which added a bit more complexity to breakfast. With sourdough, I struggled to eat it in time before it went bad even if I chose to refrigerate it.
After a while, I decided that my digestion of starches wasn't going to get better until I made myself eat them consistently, so I came up with a modified milk powder pancake recipe where half was milk powder and the other half was commercial organic pancake mix (wheat-based). This combo was better than nothing and easy because the recipe is 1:1 of both and then mix with skim milk until the right, pancake-y consistency.
Anyway, I started eating that almost everyday, and at first, my digestion wasn't perfect but it slowly improved.
Recently, after doing that for several months straight (3 to 4), I decided to try potatoes and white (short-grain) rice again, and it turned out that I didn't bloat at all and digested them with no problem and no bloating or over-full feeling.
Anyway, you don't have to do things this way, but if you are struggling with starches my advice is to make sure you're eating a little everyday; otherwise, I don't see a situation where it gets better. I now don't think twice about having rice or potatoes with a meal because I know my body can handle it.
I will mention that I was taking various sups throughout this period on-and-off, but really, the only one that I could see would make a difference in helping was that I've been taking thyroid since the beginning of this year as well.
Anyway, sometimes I see posts here, and I feel like people aren't prepared to go on a months to years long journey to see themselves heal, so they jump from sup to sup as I was when, in reality, it was really just consistently eating small amounts for several months that seemed to make the biggest difference. I have been peating for over a year now (July 2023), but I didn't start consistently eating starches until about 4 months back with some inconsistent eating of them 2 to 3 months prior to that.
I'm only taking thyroid and progesterone now btw.

RE: Low water intake actually helps
@Androsclerozat This helped me for a while. But I increased my electrolytes (cal, mag, and K specifically) and needed to up my intake but only by 1 bottle of water a day.

RE: Danny Roddy on "avoid liquid thyroid"
@Harlock hmmm, I feel like there is a large difference between people who are on the skinny hypothyroid side versus the fat hypothyroid side. I'm on the fat side and had to up my dose of thyroid by several times to feel anything.
I have used tyronene, tyromix, and tyromax. Tyromax was really the only one that needs to be shaken thoroughly to be sure of the dose, but even then, I've taken high thyroid doses through Forefront NDT both the 130mg and the 65mg (65mg is what I take now).
I feel like thyroid can certainly be dangerous, but we're talking about 2 different types of hypothyroidism sometimes. Maybe people who need super specific doses of thyroid are different than those like me who can down 130 mg of T3/T4 mix about 1:4-ish. Then lower to 65 mg with the same ratio with minimal change in effect...
Idk, I understand Danny wants to stay true to RP, but I'm into Bulgarian dark peating lol.

RE: Psychosis or derealisation
How much protein are you getting? Also, are you eating enough calories? Your diet may be oversimplified. I reduced my diet to milk and orange juice to try and lose weight earlier this year, and I ended up not getting enough calories in general but also robbing myself of key nutrients.
Off that now and feel good, and I eat a wide variety of low pufa foods.

RE: New "Mission" of RPF
I was on Twitter and the peat-sphere there when I found out about this forum and about what was in happening with the RPF. I saw screenshots and comments about it then, but I avoided visiting RPF since I heard the news... until today...
Honestly, I don't know what to say... It's clear to me that Charlie has suffered some kind of psychotic break, and I'm not just saying that. Everything there is super deranged even details about what Ray Peat said or didn't say... Even them using the phrase "ray peat diet" unironically (since it's used ironically on Twitter peat-sphere). Plus, every other account feels like a charlie-alt. I literally had that thought, before I read someone commenting that same thing in a thread (shout out to user "mephisto").
Also, it's just weird to see some cultish form of Christianity paired with "vitamin A toxicity" and other topics discussed as the God-given solution to modernity lol. It's not self-aware at all and is just disturbing. Also, the essence of Peat has always been "perceive, think, act", so I don't understand why people (Charlie's alts) there have to slam his dietary suggestions to promote these other diets.
Anyway, I feel like I just took a trip to a local asylum of the early 20th. It sucks that the name is still after "Ray Peat" though because I associate peating with being flexible and strategic in thought and action with regards to food as the Twitter peat-sphere displays alongside this forum.

RE: Seborrheic Dermatitis (SD) cured by Topical Caprylic Acid (C8:0)Triglycerides
@jamezb46 I've been trying to solve this recently, and I discovered that 1 tbsp of coconut oil a day ingested stopped the growth and cleared my scalp (along with a weekly wash with a coconut oil based shampoo and conditioner).
Also, I have applied T3 via Tyronene to spots on my scalp lacking hair and have seen a burst of new growth.
I have thought about topical application as well because I haven't really seen a reduction in the folds yet, so I will try your method soon to see if it gets even better.

RE: New Poll: You, the People Decide the Fate of a User
Yes. (I'm late though--voicing my opinion anyways)
User should be reinstated if rules do not specify that racial slurs are cause for banning. Otherwise, you are banning them based on a whim. Change official rules to be updated to new standard if user base agrees.

Sandwich pans are perfect for milk powder pancakes!
I love milk powder pancakes. I hate cooking them because you end up with 1 giant flat pancake in a pan. Realized that I could just buy a pan with little circle cups to get perfect sized pancakes.

RE: L. Reuteri
@Mauritio I have a lot of thoughts about these results because what if actually milk. Most people take L. Reuteri through yogurt, so...maybe milk is more responsible than the strain.
Also, in the case where someone takes a probiotic pill with it in there, what is the difference between people who consume dairy alongside it or across the day versus people who don't...
I took homemade L. Reuteri yogurt before peating while on carnivore. It didn't really improve much for me during that time. I enjoyed eating it though in comparison to all the meat that I was eating.

RE: Thyroid Therapy for Chronic Digestive Issues
@banquos-ghost I noticed the same. So far coconut oil, sauteed mushrooms, Lapodin, and Kuinone have done the most for me digestively. Also, B6. In this order. This is on top of taking thyroid daily.

RE: Chitosan for weight loss??
@secondkelping I've found some info so far: https://selfhacked.com/blog/chitosan/

Chitosan for weight loss??
I heard someone recommend the supplement "Chitosan" for weight loss. Can anyone tell me what it is or what it does? Is it peaty or not? Give me the details.
Also, the same person recommended white kidney powder which supposedly makes you crave carbs less which isn't very peaty, but I'm just curious what the effects actually are for both of these sups if anyone knows anything.

RE: Any peaters using squash as their main (or a regular) source of carbs? If so, how's it going?
@GreekDemiGod yeah, something that I'll have to consider for sure...

@Mulloch94 thanks for the info! I'll keep it in mind.

Seen my little nephew gobble up squash. He hates grains including rice. He's okay with potatoes. He loves carrots and squash, so I'm thinking that I may want to try squash as a regular carb. Thoughts? (butternut squash specifically)

RE: Didn't Ray bring up eating oat bran in the past?
@Milk-Destroyer Thanks!
He basically says that Oat Bran can increase metabolism for about a year of use. If eaten for more than a year, it begins to have an estrogenic effect. I don't see how long you would have to be off of it for the effect to reset though, but this is good information for me.
