Any reason to not use NAD+ in a formulation like this? Aren't you using NMN because it's a NAD+ precursor? NAD+ is readily available on Amazon for pretty cheap.

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
That's very interesting. More and more I lean towards hair loss being an occult fungal, parasitic, and possibly bacterial infection in the scalp, Probably enabled by an upstream deficiency. Something happens in the health balance that allows our body to be weakened allowing the infestation. Or perhaps it's just a product of the environment we live in. Terrain theory. When people see raised DHT levels in scalp, they blame baldness on the DHT, but that DHT overload is probably one of your body's measures to repair, trying to regrow the hair that's being destroyed by the fungus/parasites/bacteria. It's like a negative feedback loop that becomes worse and worse over time. DHT grows hair everywhere else on the body. I'm not saying high DHT does not add to the negative effect, but it not being the main factor could be why hair loss is such a mystery to this day, because other more serious underlying factors are doing more damage.
Just as another example of how this could go un-noticed by big medicine; rosacea, Apparently they don't know the cause, but doing a bit of research reading anecdotes online, it seems this might also be caused by demodex mites in most cases. People have cured it by applying ivermectin and tea tree oil. Rosaeca patients tend to have a higher amount of demodex mites, yet mainstream medicine doesn't link the two.
If the cause of a condition as prolific as rosacea is unknown to doctors/skincare professionals, and it turns out to actually be demodex mites, I think the odds of many cases (maybe a majority) of balding in men could be caused by occult fungal/parasitic/bacterial infection. Obviously there's other causes but I'm mainly focused on those caused by (allegedly) DHT.

That guy linked by @Hearthfire who used potassium bicarbonate (antimycotic + for the ion channels instead of minoxidil) also applied diluted acetic acid (white wine vinegar) before and after to enhance scalp perfusion and to (maybe/wishfully) dissolve skin calcium deposits.
Might as well choose lactic acid for that instead? Its use (5%) against acne, rosacea, for stimulating skin collagen and ceramide synthesis and for retaining skin moisture seems very safe and established.
If it were to only benefit the scalp skin even that would be beneficial for the perfusion and nutrient gradient behind the skin barrier. If the skin cells are more stable they wouldn't need to quarrel with HF, DP and stem cells about who get's the glucose and glutamine. I'd consciously deem it wise if skin cells always were to be prioritized over hair. Not really wishfully. Totally plausible, given enough applications over time. Vinegar will dissolve an eggshell in 10 hours. It's also anti-fungal. So you're doubling up on the anti-fungal action as well.

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
@CrumblingCookie The potassium bicarbonate at least is anti-fungal as well, so it could have multiple pathways to regrow hair. While also being much healthier/safer than minoxidil (even though minoxidil is pretty proven as a safe drug in correct doses and application)

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
Exactly. I watched a lot of Robert Cassar videos talking about parasites, found his channel on the other forum a few years ago. Good shampoo recipe for killing mites here, as well as being a great stimulating hair growth recipe: https://eartheracademy.com/course/stimulating-hair-growth-removing-scalp-toxicity-fungus-and-hair-mites/
@Mauritio said in Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”:
@Hearthfire I think they are certainly a factor of many.
Anecdotally I can say that I've noticed for years that anti-fungals like boron, MSM, etc. have decreased hair loss .
How do you use it? Just as a supplement? I've started taking MSM in pills and added some to my shampoo recently. I took boron 6 years ago or so as a way to boost testosterone/energy, and I do recall it having a good effect, but not mind blowing enough to continue (probably because my test levels are good already). Might have to try it again though for the hair benefits. I've seen some anecdotes online about minerals, especially trace minerals that we don't get a lot, that suggest they be a big factor in hair loss for some people. Seen a few people say they fully recovered from gray hair by taking minerals, and their hair got thick and changed texture.
I remember reading how fungus feeds on iron. I wonder if because people are so psy-oped by doctors/medical institutions about taking iron supplements and that we need a lot of iron, and the fact that it's put into foods as a vitamin, it's put into multivitamins, it's causing these fungus and other parasites to keep getting over fed. If we had the proper balance of other minerals to displace/replace and correct the high iron levels, maybe our scalps wouldn't be a weakened feeding ground?

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
@tubert Did you try it topically? The guy in the medium article put it in his shampoo as well as supplementing it with/after meals.

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
Malassezia + demodex mites is what I think might be causing baldness in a large portion of balding people. Causing constant inflammation and damage, feeding on the sebum, and causing your scalp to over-produce sebum. Maybe its this constant attack that causes DHT to raise. Normal DHT levels would cause hair to grow, but balance gets out of whack when these parasites have overrun your scalp.

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
@wester130 Yeah your thread might be where I found that medium article, or I was searching on the other forum.
Welp, time to order some potassium lol. This has renewed my interest in it and moved it to the top of the list of things to try.

RE: Lucid Dreaming Tips Thread
In my experience it's unlikely or impossible to be aware you're dreaming and not have control. Yes there are varying degrees of control though. I find I usually have great control of the dream unless I am slipping out of lucidity after becoming too excited, or after an extended period of having a lucid dream. Then it can start to morph into a regular dream state.

RE: Reversal of hair loss in Mice with “sugar gel”
I've seen some stuff about how potassium may be a key to reversing hair loss.
https://www.hairloss-research.org/carnitine-and-hairloss/
This patent pending oral minoxidil mimetic, (TRX2) developed by Dr. Whitfield, has had encouraging results in phase 2 trials (18 month point), released in October of 2011.
There were 59 participants, men and women affected by Androgenetic Alopecia.
Hair counts increased an average of 49.2%
Hair thickness increased 38.7%
Terminal hair change, (vellus to terminal) 36.4%
In all, 87% have reported cessation of hair loss.
Dr. Whitfield’s TRX2 formula is comprised of Carnitine, Branched Chain Amino Acids, Niacin, and potassium chloride. This formula can also be readily replicated at a higher potency by simply obtaining these ingredients separately, and even enhanced by using more advanced forms of Carnitine.
Our recommendation for Potassium Ion Channel restoration for hair growth consist of :
Optimized Carnitine with GlycoCarn: 1-2 capsules a day
Branched Chain Amino Acids-: 2-4 capsules a day
Niacin: 1 capsule a day
Potassium Citrate: 1 capsule a day
Thanks to the painstaking research conducted by Dr. Whitfield, the systemic stimulation of Potassium Ion Channel Function (minoxidil mimetic) can now be used as a sole intervention, or integrated into an existing hair loss treatment regime of natural DHT inhibitors and anti-inflammation agents. Although it is likely through the mechanisms identified by Dr. Whitfield, that both Carnitine and Branched Chain Amino Acids offer some benefit to hair loss on their own, it is the combination of the above mentioned compounds that would appear offer optimal benefit for both health and sustained hair growth.
This guy claims that potassium bicarbonate is the cure: https://medium.com/@baldnesscure14/the-actual-cure-for-male-pattern-baldness-c937879b872c

RE: Lucid Dreaming Tips Thread
@random If you become aware that it's a dream, you gain control of it, That's lucidity. A real lucid dream is not just "a vivid dream", it's literally like the movie Inception where you are god in the dream world and you can make anything happen that you think of. Your mind moulds the dream world. Flying, making things appear and disappear, transforming the whole world around you.
It can take quite a bit of practice to not lose lucidity or wake up, because once you realize you're in a dream it can excite you and cause you to slip out.

@sushi_is_cringe
from THEGORILLAFUND.ORG
"Bamboo is a special plant for gorillas, golden monkeys, and people too! At the Fossey Fund, we have been studying bamboo in relation to mountain gorillas for years, because it’s one of their favorite foods."
Here's a mountain gorilla feasting on bamboo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Vdk2NQdds
Every single nature documentary with gorillas I've ever seen, they're munching on bamboo....Not sure how anyone could possibly not know this.
Always funny when retards confidently state something as fact and they're completely wrong.

RE: Silicon the dietary nutrient
I'm using this currently, been using it for about a month. 70% silica content. Specifically for it's hair benefits. I think it's helping the vellus hair growth regrowth I've been experiencing.
I take it as supplement and I put it in my hair growth shampoo. Also noticed my shits have been a lot better, seemed to start happening after I started taking this. Nothing else in the diet changed.
I mean, think about it. Gorillas eat this shit, it's the bulk of their diet. Look how massive, muscular and healthy they are. Hair growing all over.
Sometimes it really is as simple as looking at nature and drawing a logical conclusion. Good for monke = good for me. -
RE: Why didn't Peating™ work for Charlie of the Ray Peat Forum dot com?
I noticed a few days ago when I visited for the first time in months that the "low toxin" labels were nowhere to be seen on the front page. Today there's two, and one is a thread about how low vitamin A diet made him hypothyroid. Can't make this shit up.
I guess the euphoria is over, and none of them will admit they were wrong
Yikes.
Admin probably desperately searching for a new holy diet.

RE: What are the best natural/non-prescription anti-fungals?
@BioEclectic Thanks for the reply. This is actually for a family member. I'll advise to use iodine. If that doesn't work we'll try the tea tree oil and maybe some peppermint/rosemary. I also ordered some Lotramin which is supposed to be effective against it.

What are the best natural/non-prescription anti-fungals?
Specifically for suspected ringworm. Anyone have recommendations? Tea tree oil is supposed to be good as well as peppermint oil, from some quick google searches. I also have rosemary oil.

RE: Holy Basil: Phyto-TESTOSTERONE, Progesterone and thyro-mimetic ?
@Mauritio Interesting. Keep us posted.
I gotta order a bunch of seeds soon. I'm gonna grow a ton of it to experiment with and put in stir fry.

RE: Diclofenac gel to regrow hair on bald head and beard
@sushi_is_cringe I'd be interested in seeing that if you can find it. No worries though. We agree it works, I just think rosemary edges it out.

RE: Diclofenac gel to regrow hair on bald head and beard
@sushi_is_cringe
I think it works, but from what actual human studies have shown and from what I've seen online from the overwhelming amount of people providing testimony of things that have worked, rosemary is on top. It's not even close.
I'm gonna need a little more than some random coach you know to prove that it's more effective than rosemary. I think rosemary and peppermint works synergistically, along with other oils like tea tree oil, as they all have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, along with the ability to increase blood flow to the scalp etc. Mix them all into castor oil. A lot of people have had incredible results with just castor + rosemary.
No reason to box yourself off to just one.
@sushi_is_cringe said in Diclofenac gel to regrow hair on bald head and beard:
maybe 0.5 better for of head and deeper for front
The studies showed 0.5mm is best, but Perfect Hair Health recommends 0.5 to 0.8. Best to stay under 1mm probably, although I've seen some people who did seriously gory wounding on their head with microneedling and had unbelievably good results after, so I don't know if the studies fully capture the full picture, and different people might respond differently. Just gotta experiment I guess.
