@Peatful That's a good point about the temps. But I think if you're keto, you basically have to hold the position that cortisol and adrenaline are the "good guys," more or less. Otherwise the argument for low carb makes no sense.

@GreekDemiGod said in High Metabolism Keto possible?:
@Mulloch94 The problem is that you can't pinpoint one marker in his blood tests that suggest a bad metabolism or a state of health. That's the issue that arises. There is always some kind of cope.
Oh, his TSH is super low because high cortisol suppresses TSH
Oh, his Testosterone is ultra-high, but it's from stress.
"Oh, his temperature is ultra high, but it's from adrenaline, cortisol.Well I wasn't implying this person is necessarily unhealthy. I don't know. I don't know them or their environment. I was more or less just trying to answer your question in the title. High metabolism - as in high fat oxidation - is possible on (or in rather) ketosis. So no, in a very real sense, you can't have the same type of metabolic rate peaterians speak about while being in ketosis. It would be akin to saying you drive a automatic and a stick shift the same way, lol.
Now the larger question that looms, the one you're hinting at now. Is ketosis bad or unhealthy? I believe it to be, but that's just my beliefs. I'm always opened to being wrong. But I also don't believe you can point to a single marker on anyone and determine them healthy or unhealthy.
In fact a capnometer would probably tell you more than any blood test with regards to metabolism. High or low cholesterol can tell a lot too though. The biggest thing is the food volume itself. No healthy person needs 5, 6, 7,000 calories a day to be "healthy." Only people who train really really fucking hard need that much food, and, ironically, those people are typically not as healthy as the public thinks they are. I don't need a blood marker to know something is wrong with someone's health when they can't go 5 or 6 hours without any food.

RE: High Metabolism Keto possible?
"High fat oxidation" is possible with keto, but not the oxidative phosphorylation that Ray always talked about. It's basically impossible to retain CO2 in ketosis, that's back to square one really. The respiratory quotient, which even low-carbers agree with and use as a reliable way to indicate whether or not they're burning fat for fuel.
The person you're referencing on Twitter has fell into the same trap basically all the Hatch "disciples" have fallen into. You CAN'T rely on temps as a sole indicator of good metabolism. Ray also discovered this back when he first started taking thyroid. Before he took thyroid, he was eating upwards of 7,000 calories a day. After he started taking it, he stabilized out at around 2,500. Burning energy, and burning energy efficiently are not the same thing.
This whole concept about CICO not being relevant has really led a significant portion of this community astray. Also coritsol is thermogenic, and can fool you into thinking your temps are high because of good metabolism.

@Mulloch94 My guess is he had a stroke because it seemed sudden to me but I don't know how people will find out for certain. His family would probably hide anything that could damage his legacy.
Yeah prolly. Welp, another influencer that didn't live to be 120, I guess according to Charlie everything he ever did was dumb and stupid now, lol.
Bro is gonna be heartbroken when Smith and Genereux don't make it to 120. If Charlie himself lives to see that day. I'm guessing not, considering Charlie is probably middle-aged right now.

RE: Lidocaine
Interestingly they also sell procaine, which is what I think Ray liked more than even lidocaine. Might be something worth trying next time. But Iv'e only ever taken lidocaine like 3 times, so I don't really have much to gauge the procaine by. Lidocaine kinda felt like cyproheptadine to me, definitely has a anti-histamine like quality to it.

RE: Lidocaine
@pablo22 I got mine from "lidocaineforless" many many years ago. Looks like the site has closed down now. You could get it from here probably, not endorsing them though because I've never bought anything from them before.

RE: Do you follow the rule of no coffee past midday?
No, not midday. I won't have any coffee after 5 pm. The reason is caffeine's half-life of roughly 6 hours. I want my caffeine concentrations to be rather low towards bedtime. But that can be achieved much later than midday. I still have a cup of coffee around 3:30-4:00 in the afternoon.

RE: Dr John McDougall dead age 77
Pretty crazy. I disagreed with him on many things but I thought it was refreshing to hear a guy who actually understood the concept (besides Ray of course) fat makes you fat, not sugar. Does anyone know how he died? Dude looked horrible the last 5-7 years of his life. Looked like a bad case of sarcopenia.

RE: Progesterone, DHEA, or Pregenelone for young men
@SerotoninSkeptic Awfully young. I would say try Pregnenolone first. Maybe thyroid if your TSH and cholesterol is high, and bowel movements are infrequent. Button mushrooms are really good, they inhibit aromatase and shift things in favor of the androgens. Eat plenty of calcium, cholesterol, protein, and sugar.

levated TSH is an independent risk factor for Major Depressive Disorder and Metabolic Syndrome.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11110191/pdf/12888_2024_Article_5847.pdf
Newly released review this May. What's interesting here is many doctors won't consider someone for thyroid therapy unless their TSH is >5.0 mIU/L. So you're pretty much on your own if you're so called "subclinically" hypothyroid.
Unrelated to the post, but if you like any of the studies I post or interested in my comments consider following me on Twitter. I just created my account a few days ago and will probably be less active on the forum now.

@Solrig No gymnastics, just thought I'd give you some brotherly advice about not being hypersensitive to what some keyboard warrior thinks about you, lol.

RE: Mulloch's shopping list
@Kilgore Yeah the coconut oil is good for frying. No taste imparted by the product.

RE: Thyroxine & RT3 troubleshooting - what worked for you?
What's more likely is your liver function is sub-optimal and T4 is converting into rT3, which lowers metabolism, makes you cold, and all that nasty stuff. If it was low cortisol you would have the same problems with T3 as T4. When someone responds poorly to only T4, that's indicative of a conversion issue. It can also be harder to fix because it's basically impossible to pinpoint where the problem is without some experimenting. There's no "blood test" to tell you why you're not converting T4. But some of the usual suspects are selenium deficiency, too much intestinal endotoxin, and not eating enough carbohydrate.

I’ve spent the majority of my life living outside the conventions of mainstream society, and I’ll tell you what I think is weird, and it ain’t the hermit. It’s how entire generations of people have been conned into believing that there is only one way to live, and that’s on-grid, in deepening debt, working on products you’ll probably never use, to line the pockets of people you’ll never meet, just so you might be able to get enough money together to buy a load of crap you don’t need, or, if you’re lucky, have a holiday that takes you to a place, like where I live, for a week of the happiness I feel every day.
A little too Kaczynskish for my personal taste, but not the worst way to live by far.
I think autism hikes are very likely to be environmental and brought about due to how much screen time kids get now. It's an exponential increase too. I'm not some old timer, just 30. I'm closer to gen Z than some of my fellow millennials. But when I was growing up I didn't have a cell phone until I was 14. Didn't have social media until I was 16. Kids now days get that shit well before they're even 10. Also the dwindling nutritional support probably isn't helping anyone either.

RE: Assorted news
@Norwegian-Mugabe I think 'moderates' (moderates defined as people who weren't already against the agenda) probably started shying away from their support for pride when it started to get really...uhh...pedophilic. Only the most batshit insane people to walk this planet could agree with letting 6 year olds take puberty blockers and read books about anal sex. We've came a long way from the 1st generation of "gay liberation" that simply wanted equal access to marriage. It started as a movement where they wanted to prove they're just like normal family unit households. Now they're doing a very good job at proving the critics right about their sexual deviancy and perversions, lol. Only NPCs and folks with political agendas continue to support this type of stuff.

RE: Raypeatforum.com is down
Now is the time to backup the site. I'm not a superstitious person by any means, but an omen and coincidence can both serve the same purpose...spurring one into action, lol.

Short form reaction needn't be taxing. This isn't.
It's no thing really. In the spirit of laying all the cards on the table, it's not as if Stefan Molyneux (or his followers) are some sort of rouge anomaly. They are, or were, very real libertarians at one time. It's just that "olive branch" in libertarianism that extends to the deepest parts of right-wing culture and philosophy has a strong gravitational pull to it. And it mostly exists today because some of the biggest libertarian "giants," like Rothbard and even Mises, aligned themselves with right-wing extremists at certain points in history. Rothbard with Pat Buchanan and the populist movement in the 90s. And even Mises backed the Austrian fascists before emigrating to America (although calling Mises a fascistic supporter is a loaded misrepresentation. As he was the chamber of commerce for the existing administration and they were in the middle of fighting a communist revolt. I call that stuck between a rock and a hard place, but I digress.). The Trump movement today is basically a resurgence of the Pat Buchanan "paleo era" in the 90s. Although I think Buchanan was much smarter than Trump. Certainly more polished. Trump says a lot of dumb and stupid stuff but ironically ends up making choices that aren't so bad, at least by comparison to the current incumbent.

@Mulloch94 What is the best way to get a red light?
Well if you're wanting to do what Ray recommneded then you should probably use one of those incandescent chicken coop lights, like this one for example. I think Danny uses something similar.
You could also use LED lights like the ones at red light man. But fair warning they're expensive. Should be an okay investment though, provided you don't get a faulty bulb they last a while.
I got my red light from LifeGivingStore about 4 years ago, before that I just used the heat lamps. I can't really say which one is better. I think the regular incandescent bulbs increase the temps more. Not sure if LGS is still selling them or not, but keep in mind Charlie is affiliated with them. Do what you like but I'm probably never going to support his businesses again. His lights were roughly the same price of red light man's too, maybe slightly cheaper.

RE: Mulloch's shopping list
Cream Cheese - This is the one I use, it's suitable for people with lactose sensitivity, and it has no gums. Not sure where all they distribute to, but my Whole Foods carries it.

@Mulloch94 said in Skim Milk Powder Recipes:
except for the PUFA thing which has gained popularity in the past 10 years
I would argue the PUFA thing is more of an environmental issue anyways. Meaning you can never completely get rid of it. It's like heavy metals, and other pollutants that slowly accumulate over time. Best defense we have is to take vitamin E and focus on optimizing glucose oxidation to keep the fats stored.
Whereas something like carrageenan, or gums, can be completely removed from the diet which would have nothing but positive effects. They're arguably worse than PUFA, and contribute to bacterial endotoxin and diabetes (2022 RCT confirmed this for carrageenan).
