My mom swears by chayote. She would make it in a soup, when she had it she would have to be careful because she also took meds to lower her blood pressure, so sometimes it would get too low.

@brafiki Maybe you got more appetite and you started eating more fructose? Maybe you are adapted to cold stress and forget to wear clothes to increase temp? Maybe you expect being warm in 20 C or 68 F in a T Shirt? Which is hardly possible.

Peatbot: The context provided does not specifically mention epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) by name, but it does discuss flavonoids found in green tea, which include EGCG. The context suggests that compounds in green tea, such as flavonoids, have potential health benefits. These flavonoids are said to reduce glutamate excitotoxicity, which is associated with a negative, energy-reducing state in cells. By reducing excitotoxicity, these compounds may help stabilize cells, calm them down, and reduce inflammation. Although they are called antioxidants, when these flavonoids are in the cell, they function as pro-oxidants, shifting the cell into a healthy oxidized condition. This is considered beneficial. Therefore, based on the context, EGCG, as a flavonoid in green tea, may have health benefits related to reducing excitotoxicity and promoting a healthy cellular state.

For those familiar with Barnes, is it known if these patients continued on thyroid indefinitely, after recovering from their deficient state? I'm always curious what would happen if someone who recovered to a healthy and more productive state than they had prior, and take on more responsibilities and commitments, and then find for some reason they have to go off of thyroid, if they maintain the new found health or are back to the original?

@Shar_to_the_dae said in Cynomel exacerbating pregnancy nausea: @functionalgirl I’ve thought about this some more, it could be because you need more carbohydrates. Taking T3 increases your need for energy and being pregnant that would be crashing your blood sugars, if you’re not eating enough carbs to support. Low bloody sugar during pregnancy causes nausea. This.

@yerrag said in Is higher metabolism good for longetivity?: @Ecstatic_Hamster It seems to me that the study only says that people get to have higher TSH levels as they get older. This is not the same as saying people having higher TSH levels get to live longer. Agreed.

@DG For me what helped me require less sleep was Selegiline, I could sleep less and still feel rested. What I think is going on is that Selegiline overtime builds up dopamine in the brain which counteracts serotonin - the hormone of hibernation

@RawGoatMilk88 said in If t3 supplementation is low enough <25mcg, does the thyroid continue to function?: If t3 supplementation is low enough <25mcg, does the thyroid continue to function? Given what Ray said below, I doubt it’s enough to fully suppress the thyroid: “As long as it's divided so that you don't get a big dose of T3 all at once it should be o.k. to take a total of 25 mcg T3 and 100 of T4. That would be similar to the traditional 2 grain dose of Armour thyroid. A healthy person should produce the equivalent of about four grains per day, so with 2 grains of supplement, or the equivalent, there isn't a risk of over-dosing.” However, even if it did, Ray said this: “Experimenters using isotopes gave large doses of thyroid until the subjects' glands were completely shut off, and when they stopped giving the doses, everyone's gland returned to normal activity in just 2 or 3 days. The gland is extremely quick to adjust its activity, both up and down, except when it's inhibited by stress, or PUFA, or estrogen, etc.” https://raypeatforum.com/wiki/index.php/Ray_Peat_Email_Exchanges#Thyroid_Hormones

Read many studies and yes, around 220 - 240 is the lowest mortality in almost all studies. It begins to fall off around 280. The lower than 220 is much higher mortality and when you get into 150s, then you are in real trouble. If your cholesterol is 280 (as mine was) it is a hypo thyroid symptom more than anything else.
