@heyman all of these gels are only as safe as their constituents. However, T is among the safest exogenous hormones other than the precursors like pregnenolone and DHEA and of course progesterone. Just watch out for shutdown

@engineer said in Fat. How low can you go per day?: @GreekDemiGod How big are you? Because that seems like a lot to anyone who's not the Hulk. I'm 75kg/165lbs so I'd have to go much lower, maybe 30g or less to feel low fat. I am not much heavier than you. 79 kg, or around 175 lbs. And I maintain my weight on 2900-3000 calories, but my fat intake is also quite high 85-90g daily currently.

@raphadv I think it’s set by the toroidal shape/rotation in the womb. Same processes that cause scoliosis. Cortisol may be a primary driver. I think DHEA, vitamin D, K and calcium/magnesium all work together to return coherence over time

Epidemiological studies can control for things that aren't being controlled for, or just have bad data. Israelis have relatively high rates of heart disease despite eating one of the most PUFA-rich diets in the world. This has resulted in the coining of the "Israel Paradox." Israel might not singularly disprove what you posted, as I don't have high insight into Israeli lifestyle habits. It's just food for thought. " In fact, Israeli Jews may be regarded as a population-based dietary experiment of the effect of a high omega-6 PUFA diet, a diet that until recently was widely recommended. Despite such national habits, there is paradoxically a high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and obesity-all diseases that are associated with hyperinsulinemia (HI) and insulin resistance (IR), and grouped together as the insulin resistance syndrome or syndrome X. @BioS "Similar hormonal, metabolic, and clinical alterations occurring in PCOS women have also been reported in their male relatives, suggesting a association between the male and female forms of the syndrome. Although the remarkable clinical manifestation of the male equivalent PCOS is diagnosed by the early-onset androgenetic alopecia, characterized by hair recession, pronounced hypertrichosis, insulin resistance, biochemical and hormonal abnormalities, the hormonal/metabolic profile is still controversial." Yeah, I read that there :[https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7382675/], had the same conclusions. Prostate enlargement may be linked with hairloss and baldness in males. Interestingly for women even if they don't have a prostate, the "equivalent" the Skene's glands are larger than normal in thoses with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). AGA might be just male PCOS after all.

@Faceguy said in IPAM (indolepropionamide) extends lifespan of rotifers by 300%: So it works better on rotifers but would presumably be less effective on mammals? I always knew knew being spineless, cold-blooded, and ciliated would pan out well for me. The researchers in the linked study added that in the species of rotifier they tested on, IPAM caused the single greatest lifespan increase of any molecule tested in any study. Obviously the equivalent dosage will likely not cause as potent effects in humans. However, it is an endogenous compound and quite small so it could be taken in larger doses at a small cost. Without as much concern for safety a synthetic drug would cause.

You can make your own chocolate syrup with cacao powder, sugar, milk or water, and vanilla extract. Bringing this to a boil and reducing it allows it to become a syrup. The stearic acid in cacao butter can help a lot with your metabolism as it is dopaminergic (I think), increases mitochondrial fusion, and lowers cancer risk. +1 for the heavy metals as chocolate can be high in cadmium and aluminum. The polyphenols in chocolate can also help with digestion as it acts as a prebiotic (at least in pigs.)

@alf to dumb it down big time: thyroid regulates metabolism. Hypothyroid people have less thyroid hormones than people with a well functioning thyroid. Less thyroid hormones, worse metabolism. More thyroid hormones, better metabolism.

@izkrov said in Fructose - Resources: Looking to pool resources on the effects of fructose, I've never felt any different from eating it but some people it upsets their tummies. Ray's mentioned that fructose is also mitochondrial uncoupler [image: 1706572367929-e2803e53-7602-4f87-95b2-232c6dcd5cef-image.png] If someone knows a source for that or the reasoning behind it, please poast. Anyway, here's some sources from his newsletters: Fructose promotes sodium retention (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6344611/) Diabetics have increased vascular leakiness (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12564648) Fructose lowers blood vessel leakiness (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14553836/) And the "Sugar Issues" newsletter from 2011 talks about how you can use fructose when glucose isn't available, as well as eating more calories but retaining the same weight. Some Haidut sources. He has a study that shows fructose didn't deplete liver atp which is a main argument against fructose https://twitter.com/haidut/status/1751765657648038132 Perhaps fructose, as an insulin mimetic, has a similar effect to insulin on the oxidation of fatty acids, which may contribute to better oxidative phosphorylation.
