@Rah1woot Indeed. You have to agree that the man has led a stimulating and eventful life. He has a winner's mindset.

RE: how much cardio/exercise to do?
Imagine thinking that a 30m jog/ run per week raises cortisol. The fear surrounding excessive exercise is valid at much higher levels of exercise, say what professional athletes/ runners do.
But cmon, do you really think being a couch potato is healthier than doing a 30m cardio weekly? -
RE: Thyroid Log
Last couple of months, I’ve been quite regular with my digestion. Getting multiple bowel movements daily, without needing to resort to helpers, or laxatives, such as Magnesium, Cascara.
The bowels don’t have perfect shape, there is still some level of inflammation/ constipation, but my bowel regularity has much improved.
It just occurred to me that it might be a benefit from taking thyroid. Or simply my digestive health being improved from regular fibers, such as oats, carrots.I am still taking thyroid, currently 75 mcg T4 and 25mcg T3. Will continue for the time being.
Looking bad, I do get benefits from thyroid, so it's worth to continue taking it.Main benefits:
- Improves constipation, more frequent, better bowel movements
- improves morning brain fog
- 10-20% improvements in overall energy levels.

RE: Idealabs Muscle Building Stack
@onliest Do you not eat at least 1hr prior your workout? I read that it's recommended to take baking soda 1-2 hrs before and after food.

RE: Personal Log - Digestion, energy, vitality
@yerrag said in Personal Log - Digestion, energy, vitality:
OP, I admire your effort, but if may opine, I would like to suggest a different approach. Reading Ray and picking his brain from reading his writings is a lot better than picking the brains of our collective here, most of whom are just as likely to give his own opinion than facts, and most are just as unversed in his writings and ideas. I'm sorry if I assume as much, but it may help all of us if we really make a serious effort to read his newsletters and books with the aim to understand and internalize them. In addition to using some good resources from members here.
Thanks for the answer. That's a good point.
Where would you suggest to start? I barely even read his articles. I mostly read the forum, and listened to GE streams or other interviews or radio shows with Ray. -
RE: Personal Log - Digestion, energy, vitality
@Androsclerozat Because of poor digestion. But as long as I eat enough carbs with the protein, I'm fine with the higher protein daily amount.

Cold seasons - adjustments in nutrition
How do you adapt your nutrition when fall and winter come along? Because it seems like a high fruit diet is optimal for warm, sunny seasons. But it’s not recommended in fall and winter.
Colder seasons require more exogenous thyroid. Less emphasis on cold fruit juice and cold milk and more emphasis on warm foods, stews, broths, potatoes, starch. Perhaps increase in protein and fat intake. How do you personally adjust your nutrition? Do you eat seasonally? Why or why not?

RE: After diet, exercise and sleep, using a sauna may be of the best things for health
What about testicular/ reproductive health? I read that sauna is not advised for when wanting to conceive a baby. The high temperature potentially damaging Leydig cells and testosterone production.
In people with varicocele (increased testicular temperature), I don’t think it’s recommended -

Rant: Ever since I got into peating (2019) I've been somehow memed into lowering my protein intake, after reading on the old forum how too much protein is thyroid supressive, too much cysteine, tryptophan.
Before 2019:
So before Peating, I was lifting weights with the purpose of putting on serious muscle. I was averaging about 160-170g of protein per day. And I was putting on muscle just fine, progressing with my workouts.2019: Started experimenting with Keto, then Carnivore. Lost a lot of weight/ muscle. Learned that my body needs carbs to bulk.
2019 autumn: Started peating. It's been 5 years. I averaged probably 120g of protein. That's not a small amount by any means, but still significantly lower than I was averaging before.
The result: I stalled with my workouts and didn't progress in the gym for years.
I know some of you will tell me that you can gain maximal muscle on just 100g of protein, but for me, it doesn't seem to be the case. My recovery is much better on higher protein. And high carbs evidently.
But I recover much better on 3300 calories and 170g protein than 3300 calories and 120g of protein, for example.Morale: I'm going back to a higher protein intake to maximize muscle gains.
Carb: protein ratio will still remain higher than 2:1. -
RE: Energy Drinks
How would you guys explain the association between red bull and heart attacks?
Stories of people who were addicted to energy drinks, and then one day they suffer a fatal heart event? -
RE: What defines the 'bile dump' the Charlie forum always talks about?
@yerrag I’m not talking about me. I am talking in general about people who can’t handle high amounts of VA, that were on the old forum.
And you avoided my main question by focusing on “if it’s coming from food sources, it’s not a problem.” That may well be the case.
It seems like very little amounts of VA are needed to maintain a sufficient level on a blood tests. Certainly not the amount provided by regular dairy, eggs, carrots consumption. I just wonder why is that?
-
RE: What defines the 'bile dump' the Charlie forum always talks about?
@yerrag Explain why it takes years of VA restriction to even come close to depleting blood levels of VA.
We know for a fact that VA does accumulate easily. In this case, I don’t see how a high retinol diet is needed for VA to have beneficial effects, since we are benefitting from the stored retinol years after restricting VA?

RE: Thyroid Supplementation safety?
Definitely monitor with blood tests and make sure he doesn't go hyper from the meds. That will put a strain on the heart.

RE: I remember Ray Peat saying he used to eat lowish carb. Does anyone know around what age he switched to favoring carbs/sugar?
@Insomniac Yeah, that's a big if. Another theory that I remember from the old forum was that he had Vitamin A toxicity, and the reason he started incorporating more veggies and oatbran, sources of soluble fiber, was to detox the VA and help in bile recirculation.
But it was too late... -
RE: How much money do you spend on groceries?
@Cezar4911 400g of white sugar? You might run into deficiencies.

RE: Advice on lowering endotoxin
Shouldn’t the goal be not lowering endotoxin, but healing the gut lining, so that endotoxin doesn’t pass into circulation anymore?
Chat Gpt says so. -
RE: Personal Log - Digestion, energy, vitality
I feel better after getting off Taurine. More clear-headed, no longer have that “drunk”, high GABA feeling.
Curcumin used in my meals seems to have a big anti-inflammatory effect in my gut. I’ve read on ChatGPT how it helps heal the gut lining.
Current approach right now is to eat an anti-inflammatory diet that helps my gut heal and regenerate. That is for me: no gluten and no commercial dairy products, and low fodmap.
Will also be looking into taking Zinc and Magnesium.I no longer believe total avoidance is the way. Carnivore, zero starch peating are not the way to heal the gut. The goal should be to slowly rebuild the microbiome and heal the gut lining.
Healing the gut lining, fixing the leaky gut will ensure endotoxin no longer exerts its harmful effects.I also believe that refined sugar, and sugary drinks are harmful in a state of dysbiosis and leaky gut. I’m talking about Coca Cola.

RE: Share positive experiences with eating liver
@yerrag If they crave it naturally, sure.
**Yes, tigers (and other carnivores) can suffer from vitamin A toxicity (also known as hypervitaminosis A). This condition occurs when there is an excessive intake of vitamin A, which is typically stored in the liver.
In the wild, tigers naturally get their vitamin A from their prey, particularly from eating the liver, which is rich in the nutrient. However, if tigers are overfed liver or receive excessive vitamin A supplementation in captivity, they can develop toxicity.
Symptoms of vitamin A toxicity in tigers may include:
- Joint pain or stiffness, leading to difficulty in movement
- Bone abnormalities (like bone overgrowth)
- Liver damage
- Lethargy or weakness
- Loss of appetite
In captivity, it's important to carefully balance their diet to avoid both deficiencies and excesses of vitamins and minerals.**

RE: Thyroid Log
I have decided to slowly wean off thyroid, safely reduce the dosage over the next 2 months, and eventually quit. Simply put, the benefits aren't worth the hassle. I have seen some benefits, but not to the level I'd desire.
And I still have a functioning thyroid and see no reason to risk atrophy of the organ by taking exogenous thyroid long-term.I also started seeing the appearance of some grey hairs, perhaps being in a hyper state caused some nutrient depletion (Copper?).
At least, I now know that thyroid wasn't my core problem. Because if that were the case, then I'd have felt much greater effects from thyroid.
Even having hyperthyroid levels on blood tests did not improve much my energy levels, or libido. My core problem remains my digestion. And low libido too.

RE: T3 vs Aspirin (for fatigue)
I don't think they work for fatigue. At least, they didn't for me.
