Abstract Alcoholic beverages produced by fermentation (e.g., beer and wine) are powerful stimulants of gastric acid output and gastrin release in humans. The aim of this study was to separate and specify the gastric acid stimulatory ingredients in alcoholic beverages produced by fermentation. Yeast-fermented glucose was used as a simple model of fermented alcoholic beverages; it was stepwise separated by different methods of liquid chromatography, and each separated solution was tested in human volunteers for its stimulatory action on gastric acid output and gastrin release. Five substances were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography and were analyzed by mass spectrometry and 1H-13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. At the end of the separation process of the five identified substances, only the two dicarboxylic acids, maleic acid and succinic acid, had a significant (P < 0.05) stimulatory action on gastric acid output (76% and 70% of fermented glucose, respectively), but not on gastrin release. When given together, they increased gastric acid output by 100% of fermented glucose and by 95% of maximal acid output. We therefore conclude that maleic acid and succinic acid are the powerful stimulants of gastric acid output in fermented glucose and alcoholic beverages produced by fermentation, and that gastrin is not their mediator of action. ... When tested separately, oxalic acid, acetic acid, and L(+)-lactic acid had no stimulatory effect on gastric acid output. Maleic acid and succinic acid, however, significantly increased gastric acid output by 76% and 70%, respectively, of fermented glucose (Figs. 2 and 4). When given together in the concentrations present in beer, maleic acid and succinic acid significantly increased gastric acid output by 95% of MAO(maximal acid output) and 100% of fermented glucose. @user73636 if the study you mention is indeed true, it's not clear if it would still be valid for Pyrucet specifically because it includes the ethyl pyruvate to replenish the PDH that the EA would reportedly inhibit.

@Ecstatic_Hamster, yep, I learned about it from a high Brix gardening group I joined when I was following a healing system called RBTI (Reams Biological Theory of Ionization). The creator, Carey Reams, was an agronomist. I’ve also used a combination of raw milk and blackstrap molasses with success. The only downside is wild animals love milk so much so that they were eating the milk soaked dirt at the base of my plants, leaving large holes. You may find this helpful: https://cheesemaking.com/blogs/fun-along-the-whey/using-whey-in-your-garden Nice! Smart idea. I’ve been using a nut milk bag fitted over the mouth of a 2 L Ball jar, but I’ll see if I can find a strainer to fit my bowl so I have one less dish to clean.

@Faceguy said in IPAM (indolepropionamide) extends lifespan of rotifers by 300%: So it works better on rotifers but would presumably be less effective on mammals? I always knew knew being spineless, cold-blooded, and ciliated would pan out well for me. The researchers in the linked study added that in the species of rotifier they tested on, IPAM caused the single greatest lifespan increase of any molecule tested in any study. Obviously the equivalent dosage will likely not cause as potent effects in humans. However, it is an endogenous compound and quite small so it could be taken in larger doses at a small cost. Without as much concern for safety a synthetic drug would cause.

You can make your own chocolate syrup with cacao powder, sugar, milk or water, and vanilla extract. Bringing this to a boil and reducing it allows it to become a syrup. The stearic acid in cacao butter can help a lot with your metabolism as it is dopaminergic (I think), increases mitochondrial fusion, and lowers cancer risk. +1 for the heavy metals as chocolate can be high in cadmium and aluminum. The polyphenols in chocolate can also help with digestion as it acts as a prebiotic (at least in pigs.)

@alf to dumb it down big time: thyroid regulates metabolism. Hypothyroid people have less thyroid hormones than people with a well functioning thyroid. Less thyroid hormones, worse metabolism. More thyroid hormones, better metabolism.

@izkrov said in Fructose - Resources: Looking to pool resources on the effects of fructose, I've never felt any different from eating it but some people it upsets their tummies. Ray's mentioned that fructose is also mitochondrial uncoupler [image: 1706572367929-e2803e53-7602-4f87-95b2-232c6dcd5cef-image.png] If someone knows a source for that or the reasoning behind it, please poast. Anyway, here's some sources from his newsletters: Fructose promotes sodium retention (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6344611/) Diabetics have increased vascular leakiness (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12564648) Fructose lowers blood vessel leakiness (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14553836/) And the "Sugar Issues" newsletter from 2011 talks about how you can use fructose when glucose isn't available, as well as eating more calories but retaining the same weight. Some Haidut sources. He has a study that shows fructose didn't deplete liver atp which is a main argument against fructose https://twitter.com/haidut/status/1751765657648038132 Perhaps fructose, as an insulin mimetic, has a similar effect to insulin on the oxidation of fatty acids, which may contribute to better oxidative phosphorylation.

@pillsbury What kind of exercises were you doing before getting injured?? Those are both injuries of over-use. I had the same time of cyst on my wrist from gymnastics but I didn't pop it. I stopped putting heavy loads on it and I took lots of aspirin, and it disappeared in a couple of months. You should take aspirin, vitamin E mixed tocopherols, and get some selenium from shellfish 2x a week. Put a warm wet rag on it for 10 minutes every day. Never use icy hot at the same time as the skin is wet, but icy hot or a similar menthol+camphor+methyl salicylate rub helps too.

@API-Beast I’m unsure. I know for myself, cooking rice pilaf well in bone broth was great for quick, digestible starches with no blood sugar “crash” feel. Same with jasmine rice and sweet potatoes.
