@RawGoatMilk88 said in High metabolism feeling lethargic rather than energetic?: I would avoid iron supplementation, just eat more meat. Historically it was not enough for us (judging by ferriting level), although I would prefer otherwise. Availability of red meat also leaves something to be desired where we live. @Razvan said in High metabolism feeling lethargic rather than energetic?: I will suggest to try iron citrate not the normal prescriped iron sulfate. The citrate form protects against the formation of free radicals, it's easier absorbed and causes 0 to no intestinal distress. What do you think about iron bisglycinate? We didn't experience much intestinal irritation from it. @yerrag I might have chosen a wrong title. The more precise one would be "I have the indicators of a good metabolism, why am I lethargic?". I also did not know endotoxin can raise temps, although at least in my case the temps were tightly correlated with supplementation. @T-3 thanks for expounding on your experiences. Your post gives me a lot of hope; I have been kind of wavering in my confidence recently and I fear my entire life will pass before I figure this out.

@Jenna testosterone base in olive oil and d-alpha tocopherols. 2 - 8mg per day, once a day in the belly button, is probably a good protocol.

@SummerPeach yeh i would 2 oranges or 1-2 cups OJ should help protect from the toxins in cigarettes to some extent, not sure how significant the effects are for hormones tho another relevant thing http://haidut.me/?p=1905 (female smokers had 40% higher chance of quitting smoking during the week of high progesterone compared to any period throughout the study - "When a woman’s progesterone level was increasing from a low level, she smoked fewer cigarettes per day without even knowing it or trying to. But that effect on smoking behavior eventually levels off. When progesterone peaks in a woman’s cycle, it’s very high. The benefits plateau.” He noted that the biggest finding is that quitting success comes from the low to high increase" & https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11420098/ so going from low to high progesterone helps quit smoking - so if are low then might benefit, but a supporting lift can be from just getting low milligrams extra & more isnt necessarily better (maybe pushed it too much, or didnt get along with the vit E? or maybe just didnt need it altogether), if arent low (or estrogen signalling already low) then might not benefit)

@Emilia I've had the same since around the age of 10 I believe. Sometimes doctors or opticians have noticed it and just asked "has that always been there?" and then they don't take it any further than that. Certain exo-thinkers believe it to be some kind of indicator of organ health for the person with the pigment.

@himblondemaxxing Good call, I've noticed a greater craving for calcium when by salt is already doing well. Lately I've been having about half a gallon of milk a day and I certainly notice the days that I have less.

I broke my wrists last year skateboarding and after the cast it was still a bit painful especially on my right wrist. I tried magnesium oil, k2... a lot of things. I finally tried comfrey balm and it did reduce my pain a lot. If I had known, I would have applied it directly just after my "crash" This winter my ex gf had very dry hands all the winter until she tried comfrey balm, it was way better after. Beat all the bs dry hands cream she used

@Kvirion Coffee, caffeine and milk are each complicated topics. No one size fits all answer for any of them. And i still mean to follow up on some of the interesting info that @LucH brought up previously, the website and maybe even skimming the book since i can see that it's available elsewhere.

@ZeroTron That's a great question. Many years ago I was reading a study about guys in the military. Couldn't get their wives pregnant despite great health markers. Now it's been awhile but IIRC they needed 15-20 nanograms/deciliter progesterone. The tail motor of sperm doesn't work without progesterone. So without further context, and the joke that's modern lab range of 0, that's my best guess. Couldn't hurt to use pubmed and search around a bit, use sci-hub.st to try to find full papers.

Thanks for all the great information you all provided. Culture turned out to be positive for a relatively common and most often benign skin bacteria, so it was most likely a false positive/contaminated sample. But, this is all useful information nonetheless.

@LucyJ said in Gastro paresis: @SummerPeach I think my issue is cortisol. Things that up regulate my glutamate and cause head agitation and tension = slow my gut. Now that's calmed down my gut is better but I will try the enzymes as I am prone to constipation (currently K2 seems to be causing some issues), thank you You might consider looking into the effects of estrogen on cortisol. go here: https://raypeat.com/articles/articles/estrogen-age-stress.shtml search for Cortisol. "People have spoken of "cascades" in relation to the adrenal glucocorticoids (e.g., cortisol) and estrogen, leading to cell damage, but really both of these hormonal cascades have to be seen as part of a more general collapse of adaptive systems, as a result of both chronic and immediate inadequacies of energy production." also "Estradiol stimulates cortisol production by adrenal cells in estrogen-dependent primary adrenocortical nodular dysplasia." (from the References below the article)

@revenant 1.5L doesn't seem too much, especially if you don't drink water, but could try to go lower as a "therapeutic intervention".

@PeatPioneer I work outside everyday and I was looking for a sunscreen alternative for a while. Diet is important and you have to build up your resistance to sunlight starting with the morning light. I use idealabs solban on my face every morning if I have to work under the sun all day, last week I forgot it once and got a minor sunburn.

@LiamGraves said in Horrific Nausea from Seizure Medication: A friend of mine was recently prescribed a medication called Keppra (Levetiracetam) to deal with seizures. As a result, she started experiencing mood swings, and more importantly, terrible nausea and headaches whenever eating anything, leading her to sometimes go days without eating, and almost never feeling hungry. I recommended progesterone and thyroid, and that's done a lot to elevate her mood, but the nausea symptoms from food persist. Does anyone have any advice? I typed the word "Levetiracetam" into the search bar at the Ray Peat forum and came up with these threads and posts: https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/after-effects-of-serotonin-syndrome-advice-please.4330/ https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/hdac-inhibitors-affect-every-function-of-the-cell-and-may-extend-lifespan.10924/#post-334386 https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/advancing-widespread-nerve-damage-and-pain-severe-insomnia-suicidal-every-day.49591/ https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/brain-damage.23810/ https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/vitamin-c-protects-against-seizures.27339/ https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/please-help-my-3-year-old-son-who-his-suffering-from-epilepsy.21368/page-2#post-859621 Personally i would skim over it for useful ideas, a common theme seems to be Magnesium but the form is often important. Wishing your friend the best, and luck for you in your research.
