@DavidPS said in Lipofuscin accumulation in aging and neurodegeneration: Dr. Peat has written about lipofuscin. Too many options (lazy). here I've got this info on my pC. *) How the Oils In Your Diet Are Aging Your Skin. Dr. Peat goes on to explain what this rancidity (oxidation process) does: "The free radicals produced in this process react with parts of cells, such as molecules of DNA and protein, and may become attached to those molecules, causing abnormalities of structure and function." https://raypeat.com/articles/articles/unsaturated-oils.shtml EGCG Inhibited Lipofuscin Formation Based on Intercepting Amyloidogenic β-Sheet-Rich Structure Conversion https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4816542/ "Lipofuscin (LF) is formed during lipid peroxidation and sugar glycosylation by carbonyl-amino crosslinks with biomacrolecules, and accumulates slowly within postmitotic cells. The environmental pollution, modern dietary culture and lifestyle changes have been found to be the major sources of reactive carbonyl compounds in vivo. Irreversible carbonyl-amino crosslinks induced by carbonyl stress are essentially toxiferous for aging-related functional losses in modern society. Results show that (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the main polyphenol in green tea, can neutralize the carbonyl-amino cross-linking reaction and inhibit LF formation, but the underlying mechanism is unknown."

@what-about-bob Thanks. I like the summary. How everything all fits in from theae great minds and put together by Ray Peat into more practical lifestyle applicable ideas. I am appreciating how I see myself on the "applied technology" end of their contributions as I incorporate these ideas into my attempt to be my own doctor as I attempt to improve my health. I have been unable for the past 24 years to lower my blood pressure without using prescription medication. But I am seeing the light at the end of this tunnel. It is a long process of learning and I don't give up. Thanks to recent developments in science and technology, I may be able to lower my blood pressure finally using ideas from Peat and his predecessors. What has been helpful is my use of AI as an efficient research assistant and aggregator of concepts and minute details that my own limited human mind can't recall easily and utilize readily.

@yerrag said in Creatine and Ray Peat: @mostlylurking I think (I have not been reading a lot lately so I could be wrong) that anaerobic glycolysis is wasteful of thiamine, and that thiamine mega dosing helps, but clearing the capillaries of obstruction to make oxygen available to the brain fully is the way to fixing Parkinson's. Thiamine megadosing helps by compensating for the inefficiency and wastefulness of anaerobic glycolysis. Hi yerrag, thanks for the link; I always value your insight. I read through your post and immediately thought of a Ray Peat audio when he discusses vitamin K2 for removing calcium in the circulatory system. I believe my own thiamine deficiency/functional blockage fall of 2020 derailed my calcium storage which usually means the calcium that is supposed to get stored in the bones gets stored in the soft tissue (including the blood vessels) instead. Peat related a story about a doctor he knew that used high dose K2 (40-50mgs?) to resolve his hypertension. Thiamine is needed for good oxidative metabolism. When it is deficient, the end product of the process is lactic acid instead of carbon dioxide. If things are working right, the carbon dioxide drags the calcium inside the cell out when the carbon dioxide exits the cell (from memory - A Peat explanation from somewhere). So it makes sense that calcium storage would get derailed in a thiamine deficiency. Here's a link or two: https://bioenergetic.life/?q=k2 The one with the story about the doctor high dosing the K is in there somewhere.... also this:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7926526/ Please note that vitamin D, needed for the immune system to work, also is responsible for making calcium get stored in the bones; in order to do this, there needs to be vitamin K available. So I think both D and K would be helpful.

@Hando-Jin I have lost track what really defines organic. It has mattered less with time, as the meaning keeps getting watered down. Trust in the system isn't there, and I wonder if I'm the bigger fool for paying a premium for someone:s ability to skirt past regulations to call what he sells me organic. It's simply better to know a farmer and for that to happen you have to go local. Organic certifications are just as useful as having a piece of paper certifying one as a doctor or a scientist. And they just do the bidding of their employing in falsifying science into a scam. Don't trust the system. Trust a person. Easy to say but hard to do in actuality because we don't make time to know. The pressures of every day life leave little room to roam your locale and meet the folks who work the soil and till the land. At the end of the day, I cross my fingers and hope I'm not taking in enough poison as I get my daily nutrients through food.

@bio3nergetic said in Coca-Cola and Energy drinks have graphene oxide.: @noodlecat59 are we certain that's not hydrocarbons you're referring to? Nanoparticles are not part of a "normal" process like cooking. Nano anything is tech. Looking into this further, it seems nanoparticles can be made from cooking and they refer to them as carbon dots. However! We don't know if these specially found in coke are added, or occur from the process of making it. I suppose the only true way to control for this question is to analyze a 30 or 40 year old coke to compare lol. So this is an important distinction: the villainous industry IS adding nanoparticles to things, as preservatives, enhancement or to act as "nutrient vehicles" as the reductionist science/medical industry is so proud of. We cannot know for certain which particles we are dealing with here.

@FitnessMikey Seens it primarily increases dopamine, (and norepinephrine a bit also) which would lower prolactin and serotonin (two stress related substances iirc). Alternatives... boost metabolism (mitochondria repair etc) boost dopamine lower serotonin and prolactin lower cortisol/ACTH/(estrogen?) aka anti-stress Some quotes on Medikinet: Medikinet is an extended-release methylphenidate medication, while Ritalin is a short-acting methylphenidate medication Methylphenidate primarily acts as a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI). Methylphenidate is a psychostimulant and increases the activity of the central nervous system through inhibition on reuptake of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine. Methylphenidate is most active at modulating levels of dopamine (DA) and to a lesser extent norepinephrine (NE). Methylphenidate binds to and blocks dopamine transporters (DAT) and norepinephrine transporters (NET).

@CO3 "Volkheimer found that mice fed raw starch aged at an abnormally fast rate, and when he dissected the starch-fed mice, he found a multitude of blocked arterioles in every organ, each of which caused the death of the cells that depended on the blood supplied by that arteriole. It isn't hard to see how this would affect the functions of organs such as the brain and heart, even without considering the immunological and other implications...." "Around 1988 I read Gerhard Volkheimer's persorption article, and after doing some experiments with tortillas and masa, I stopped eating all starch except for those, then eventually I stopped those. Besides grains of starch entering the blood stream, lymph, and cerebral spinal fluid, starch feeds bacteria, increasing endotoxin and serotonin. For people with really sensitive intestines or bad bacteria, starch should be zero.” ~Ray Peat PhD

@LucH If you drink enough during the day light, you can’t be dehydrated because of sleep unless there is another problem. Well yes of course, that's true of every human, the issue is what constitutes enough? Why is it I went from consuming x amount of water and now need to consume several times that amount for the same result. This would treat the symptoms but not the cause. I'm not necessarily looking for treatment whether the root cause, or the symptoms but rather trying to find out what is causing this all to happen in the first place. Most fruits and vegetables are digested in less than half an hour. If you eat first starch and meat, fibers will remain longer (2-3 hours) in the first part of the colon than what is needed. Ok that is useful information if I decide to consume vegetables or more fruit again, thanks. Currently I'm consuming fruit juice and the juice from oranges only. But I'll note that with melons and such. Maybe I'll just separate the juices anyway to be sure. @LucH Check my list under diet above, more than adequate protein is being consumed. Well I consume 0.6-0.8 g per pound of body weight which is what Mike Fave and Jay Feldman recommend. Peat changed his stance on high protein towards the end and describes high protein as being anti metabolic. I would add: duck. Ok I don't understand that either, duck is full of pufas. You didn't explain that and it's not obvious. I suppose I should just take this for gospel otherwise I would be "arguing". @LucH You didn’t say how much and what type. It’s not with 50 mg Thiamine HCl you’re going to re-connect the brain and the microbiota through the vagus nerve. True, I take 200-300mg Thiamin HCL. Yes, you have if you bloat and have flatulence. Your digestion is problematic. True but I had that before this issue began with severe flatulence but no skin or dehydration issues. I won’t discuss any longer why and how. You’re not receptive enough and I need to see the person accessible to optimize my “time invest”. Ok you seem somewhat authoritarian in your advice and much of it seems anti peat. It's normal for me to ask for an explanation. You seem to be offended when anything you say is questioned so as you say it's probably best to leave it. You should have asked why or how if you didn’t perceive the reason instead of arguing. I did ask why. Quote from above: "You mean separate from other food types? Why would that help?" You even responded to that. Not sure what you want to say there. Sorry to be hard but … Ok hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the help anyway. Take care of you and stay open-minded. Normally you work with someone to find solve their problems instead of just telling them what will work for them without question. Problems are very individual and context dependent, there's no blanket advice that will work for all. Of course you have no obligation to help as you say, for what it's worth I did get some useful info from you.

@Evolutionarily a good way to get any drug is to basically say you were staying out of the country and were prescribed this drug at this dose and you are seeing if you can get a refill because your date for going back to the country you got it in is a little later and you are worried to run out. then once you have it prescribed one on your file you can go to another doctor and more easily get it. this works well in countries with tele-medicine consults and doctor shortages. minocycline is easy to get over the phone by saying you took it for acne many years ago and would like to go back on it
