@AlphaZance said in Poly is more Effective than Mono - Unsaturated Fat For dietary management IN the Metabolic Syndrome: The MUFFIN Study: The MUFFIN study provides evidence that for obese individuals with metabolic syndrome, replacing saturated fats with PUFA can lead to rapid improvements in clinical biomarkers (blood pressure and triglycerides). Hi, I see a bias in this 6 months study: They're under control; so they eat differently, taking insulinoma into account, with a limiting amount of food. And yes if you were eating an unbalanced diet, different from 45 45 10 % , you're going to get problems. And a correlation between improved blood markers and muffins with safflower (rich in PUFA) is a kind of misfit when you conclude with "RP anti-theory on PUFAs", compared to "Pufa's are essential". Everyody agrees to says omega-3 have a calming effect, namely against inflammation and savage growth (cancer), except this effect is only a short-term effect. There are side-effects (...). I noticed the reprint of Nutrition for Women says "100 short articles by Ray Peat, PHD," where the old one said "92...". What did they add to it? Also, note that From PMS to Menopause is for sale on Peat's website but not Amazon, and Peat's website doesn't have Generative Energy. Weird. I wonder if Katherine gets more of the money if you order from Peat's site. I'd imagine so.

@awawat there’s more where that came from ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Also, I would consider your rT3 levels if you’ve taken only T4 with no results for a while. Peat talked about success with low doses over a course of 6-24 months. Maybe you could play with higher ratios of t3 to t4 in your lunch and dinner doses. Danny Roddy probably has the most complied info on practical thyroid use, between convos with Peat, and feedback with health coaching. I think he might have a concise vid on using thyroid on YouTube

@Mossy, thank you for understanding. I’ve been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we’ve been having here and helping my dad build up the endurance he lost since having the flu in January so I’ve been away from my computer and the forum more, lately. I think the thread’s title should read Cooking With Mossy because you’re far more ambitious and precise with your cooking than I am. You remind me of my brother. While I hardly ever measure ingredients and prefer using my senses—for example, I can tell by smell when something is done baking—my brother is methodical and likes following detailed instructions. I joke that it’s because he’s a Virgo, a sign known for its meticulous attention to detail, sometimes to its own detriment, and that if you want something done to perfection, hire a person with Virgo (or Capricorn) placements. I’m so glad you’ve made strides with your health and with your level of dedication, I have no doubt that you’ll continue to. I think my success with thyroid is a reflection of my long-standing deficiency, having had an under-active thyroid since birth and certain stressful experiences like molestation that suppressed it further. I think the average person with a healthier history could improve their thyroid function with diet and lifestyle changes alone. Having overcome the trauma, my need to supplement is minimal now outside of winter so I’m hopeful it will eventually be unnecessary. I’ve been a swimmer since I was in utero —in fact, one of my earliest memories is me as a baby in our pool wishing my mum had put me in the blue floaty she put my cousin in, instead of the red floaty I was in because even barely out of the womb I had strong preferences and don’t care for red lol—so I don’t actually fear I would drown, but I can see myself getting tossed around like a beach ball. However, it’s not mastering surfing that I’m after, but the surfer’s relaxed lifestyle and mindset. I could easily spend hours floating in the ocean on a surfboard (or steamer trunk—shout-out to Joe ), never catching a wave, and be in total bliss if I was in the flow, just being water, my friend. Haha! Fair enough. My dad isn’t a finger tapper, though. I sometimes wish he was because it has been a struggle getting him to eat, especially since his cancer treatments. I used to make all his meals in bulk on Mondays and he would just pull whatever he wanted out of the freezer and reheat it in the microwave throughout the week, but I’m having to make him all his meals daily now because he won’t eat otherwise. LOL at ask Jennifer. I’ve been collecting random knowledge in preparation for if I’m ever a contestant on a game show. I’m convinced with each fact I gather that no matter how useless, it will be the answer to the question that stands between me and the grand prize so it goes in the memory bank. Even if there is credibility to the claimed benefits of sprouting and fermenting, it sounds like grains are only a fraction of your diet so I personally would stick with the flour that’s been working for you. You’re already eliminating the worst offenders (IMO)—the franken ingredients—by baking from scratch. The only reason I like sprouted flour is because I find it sweeter and as a devout Wonka follower, the sweeter the better. My dad doesn’t eat a ton of grains, anyway.

@LucH If you drink enough during the day light, you can’t be dehydrated because of sleep unless there is another problem. Well yes of course, that's true of every human, the issue is what constitutes enough? Why is it I went from consuming x amount of water and now need to consume several times that amount for the same result. This would treat the symptoms but not the cause. I'm not necessarily looking for treatment whether the root cause, or the symptoms but rather trying to find out what is causing this all to happen in the first place. Most fruits and vegetables are digested in less than half an hour. If you eat first starch and meat, fibers will remain longer (2-3 hours) in the first part of the colon than what is needed. Ok that is useful information if I decide to consume vegetables or more fruit again, thanks. Currently I'm consuming fruit juice and the juice from oranges only. But I'll note that with melons and such. Maybe I'll just separate the juices anyway to be sure. @LucH Check my list under diet above, more than adequate protein is being consumed. Well I consume 0.6-0.8 g per pound of body weight which is what Mike Fave and Jay Feldman recommend. Peat changed his stance on high protein towards the end and describes high protein as being anti metabolic. I would add: duck. Ok I don't understand that either, duck is full of pufas. You didn't explain that and it's not obvious. I suppose I should just take this for gospel otherwise I would be "arguing". @LucH You didn’t say how much and what type. It’s not with 50 mg Thiamine HCl you’re going to re-connect the brain and the microbiota through the vagus nerve. True, I take 200-300mg Thiamin HCL. Yes, you have if you bloat and have flatulence. Your digestion is problematic. True but I had that before this issue began with severe flatulence but no skin or dehydration issues. I won’t discuss any longer why and how. You’re not receptive enough and I need to see the person accessible to optimize my “time invest”. Ok you seem somewhat authoritarian in your advice and much of it seems anti peat. It's normal for me to ask for an explanation. You seem to be offended when anything you say is questioned so as you say it's probably best to leave it. You should have asked why or how if you didn’t perceive the reason instead of arguing. I did ask why. Quote from above: "You mean separate from other food types? Why would that help?" You even responded to that. Not sure what you want to say there. Sorry to be hard but … Ok hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the help anyway. Take care of you and stay open-minded. Normally you work with someone to find solve their problems instead of just telling them what will work for them without question. Problems are very individual and context dependent, there's no blanket advice that will work for all. Of course you have no obligation to help as you say, for what it's worth I did get some useful info from you.

@Evolutionarily a good way to get any drug is to basically say you were staying out of the country and were prescribed this drug at this dose and you are seeing if you can get a refill because your date for going back to the country you got it in is a little later and you are worried to run out. then once you have it prescribed one on your file you can go to another doctor and more easily get it. this works well in countries with tele-medicine consults and doctor shortages. minocycline is easy to get over the phone by saying you took it for acne many years ago and would like to go back on it

@pittybitty said in What helps improve executive function?: I've generally been fine in regards to energy since supplementing B vitamins, but the low executive function remains. Give details, please, because it's not with a B-50 multi you're going to have a game changer. You need to read these two links to understand why you lack B6 if you're inflamed or under-immune. Sure with dysbiosis. And to understand why you need more B1 thiamine (not HCl) if you eat carbs like most people. Potential roles of Vit B6 in inflammation and immunity. Preventive role of B6 against chronic diseases & downregulation of the inflammatory mediators https://mirzoune-ciboulette.forumactif.org/t2034-english-corner-potential-roles-of-vit-b6-in-inflammation-and-immunity#29633 Main ideas • Preventive role of B6 against chronic diseases. Several diseases are mediated, at least in part, by lower inflammation, possibly through modulation of several kinases. (1) • Vit B6 deficiency is associated with lower immune function and higher susceptibility to viral infection. (2) Megadoses do not produce additional benefits after repletion. (3-4) But elderly should benefit from cyclic supplement (with pauses and moderate amounts, aka 50 mg pyridoxamine). • Plasma PLP levels were inversely correlated with systemic inflammation markers such as CRP. (5) Vitamin B6 supplementation suppressed IL-6 and increased total lymphocytes in patients with chronic conditions. (6) • Vitamin B6 supplementation improved immune function in both human and animal studies. (7-8) It improves the immune response, causing increased antibody production, and enhances communicative interactions between cytokines and chemokines. (9-11) • The authors of this study (0) assume that vitamin B6 is possible to suppress hyperinflammation, at least in part, through NLRP3 inflammasome inhibition, limiting virus spread and cytokine storm. Together with the notion that NLRP3 inflammasome plays a central role in chronic diseases, including CVD, diabetes, and acute viral pneumonia (12–14), the anti-inflammasome effect of vitamin B6 suggest its therapeutic role in reducing the severity of COVID-19 and its complications. • Studies indicate that B6-vitamers can reduce superoxide radical and lipid peroxide levels induced by H2O2 in vascular endothelial cells (15). Too much sulfites (H2O2) exhaust B6 PLP. • Pyridoxamine has anti-glycation activity and inhibits the formation of AGEs. (16) • It was identified that high-dose vitamin B6 has a global anti-inflammatory effect on lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in monocyte/macrophage cells by downregulating the key broad-spectrum inflammatory mediators. (17-18) Sources and References (in English, on the link, my forum). See too: English Corner – Vit B6: How much is too much? Main ideas Too much of a good thing is bad. Especially bad for neuro-sensitive people. Vitamin B6 is well documented for its role as a modulator of steroid hormones. No problem with food intake if not supplemented. Maximum RDA target is 25 mg B6. But update RDA is given at 6-12 mg. There are 6 vitamers and a way-out form through the urine. If we want a pharmacological effect, we have to take into account the form of the vitamers. The active form is B6 PLP. And for B1 thiamin *) ## Thiamine Deficiency - A Potential Cause of SIBO and other Gut Dysfunction? https://mirzoune-ciboulette.forumactif.org/t1896-vit-b1-deficience-desordre-intestinal Version complète plus complète sur ce site (Vaut le détour) : Elliot Overton – Nutrition and Functional Medicine https://www.eonutrition.co.uk/post/thiamine-deficiency-a-major-cause-of-sibo – 01/2019 *) ## Thiamine and the Microbiome – Dr. Lonsdale https://www.hormonesmatter.com/thiamine-microbiome/ 03/23 Excerpt: The acquisition / bioavailability of thiamine is not only essential to the physiology of our organism and our good physical and mental condition, but thiamine is a cofactor for certain intestinal bacteria that change behavior depending on the variable availability of B1 .

@wester130 said in Natural antibiotic - Allicin, Neem and Oregano Oil,: Would this work for SIBO? Not enough. As said by Kviron, we need to deal with a better metabolism or the problem won't disappear, and even worsens. You're going to kill some / a lot of bacteria with these options but not all the bacteria. The strongest ones will remain and overgrowth. You must first get informed on how dealing with LPS when killing some bacteria (how to manage a saturated liver). Need to know how to avoid stagnation of starch in the second part of the colon (See MMC and SIBO / SIFO). Afterwards you need to help thyroid for the right amount of energy with adapted nutrients. And last but not the ultimate you have to balance the communication between the brain and the stomach (commensal bacteria). Excerpt: The lower regions of the brain responsible for coordinating the autonomic nervous system are particularly vulnerable to a deficiency of thiamine. Consequently, the metabolic derangement in these brain regions caused by deficiency produces dysfunctional autonomic outputs and misfiring, which goes on to exert detrimental effects on every bodily system – including the gastrointestinal organs. However, the severe gut dysfunction in this context is not only caused by faulty central mechanisms in the brain, but also by tissue specific changes which occur when cells lack thiamine. The primary neurotransmitter utilized by the vagus nerve is acetylcholine. Enteric neurons also use acetylcholine to initiate peristaltic contractions necessary for proper gut motility. Thiamine is necessary for the synthesis of acetylcholine and low levels produce an acetylcholine deficit, which leads to reduced vagal tone and impaired motility in the stomach and small intestine. In the stomach, thiamine deficiency inhibits the release of hydrochloric acid from gastric cells and leads to hypochlorydria (low stomach acid). The rate of gastric motility and emptying also grinds down to a halt, producing delayed emptying, upper GI bloating, GERD/reflux and nausea. This also reduces one’s ability to digest proteins. Due to its low pH, gastric acid is also a potent antimicrobial agent against acid-sensitive microorganisms. Hypochlorydria is considered a key risk factor for the development of bacterial overgrowth. Source: Dr Costantini SIBO and Thiamine Deficiency Dr Costantini and bacterial overgrowth SIBO, IBS, and Constipation: Unrecognized Thiamine Deficiency? – June 2020 https://www.hormonesmatter.com/sibo-ibs-constipation-thiamine-deficiency/ PS: You'll probably need to optimize bile and chlorhidric acid to optimize meat digestion if the digestion takes to long.
