Their tendency to oxidize is very great. These oxidative processes can damage enzymes and other parts of cells, and especially their ability to produce energy. The enzymes which break down proteins are inhibited by unsaturated fats, and these enzymes are needed not only for digestion, but also for production of thyroid hormones, clot removal, immunity, and the general adaptability of cells. The risks of abnormal blood clotting, inflammation, immune deficiency, shock, aging, obesity, and cancer are increased. Thyroid and progesterone are decreased. Since the unsaturated oils block protein digestion in the stomach, we can be malnourished even while "eating well." *) Useful info: more to be read on my forum. I noticed the reprint of Nutrition for Women says "100 short articles by Ray Peat, PHD," where the old one said "92...". What did they add to it? Also, note that From PMS to Menopause is for sale on Peat's website but not Amazon, and Peat's website doesn't have Generative Energy. Weird. I wonder if Katherine gets more of the money if you order from Peat's site. I'd imagine so.

@awawat there’s more where that came from ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Also, I would consider your rT3 levels if you’ve taken only T4 with no results for a while. Peat talked about success with low doses over a course of 6-24 months. Maybe you could play with higher ratios of t3 to t4 in your lunch and dinner doses. Danny Roddy probably has the most complied info on practical thyroid use, between convos with Peat, and feedback with health coaching. I think he might have a concise vid on using thyroid on YouTube

@Mossy, thank you for understanding. I’ve been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we’ve been having here and helping my dad build up the endurance he lost since having the flu in January so I’ve been away from my computer and the forum more, lately. I think the thread’s title should read Cooking With Mossy because you’re far more ambitious and precise with your cooking than I am. You remind me of my brother. While I hardly ever measure ingredients and prefer using my senses—for example, I can tell by smell when something is done baking—my brother is methodical and likes following detailed instructions. I joke that it’s because he’s a Virgo, a sign known for its meticulous attention to detail, sometimes to its own detriment, and that if you want something done to perfection, hire a person with Virgo (or Capricorn) placements. I’m so glad you’ve made strides with your health and with your level of dedication, I have no doubt that you’ll continue to. I think my success with thyroid is a reflection of my long-standing deficiency, having had an under-active thyroid since birth and certain stressful experiences like molestation that suppressed it further. I think the average person with a healthier history could improve their thyroid function with diet and lifestyle changes alone. Having overcome the trauma, my need to supplement is minimal now outside of winter so I’m hopeful it will eventually be unnecessary. I’ve been a swimmer since I was in utero —in fact, one of my earliest memories is me as a baby in our pool wishing my mum had put me in the blue floaty she put my cousin in, instead of the red floaty I was in because even barely out of the womb I had strong preferences and don’t care for red lol—so I don’t actually fear I would drown, but I can see myself getting tossed around like a beach ball. However, it’s not mastering surfing that I’m after, but the surfer’s relaxed lifestyle and mindset. I could easily spend hours floating in the ocean on a surfboard (or steamer trunk—shout-out to Joe ), never catching a wave, and be in total bliss if I was in the flow, just being water, my friend. Haha! Fair enough. My dad isn’t a finger tapper, though. I sometimes wish he was because it has been a struggle getting him to eat, especially since his cancer treatments. I used to make all his meals in bulk on Mondays and he would just pull whatever he wanted out of the freezer and reheat it in the microwave throughout the week, but I’m having to make him all his meals daily now because he won’t eat otherwise. LOL at ask Jennifer. I’ve been collecting random knowledge in preparation for if I’m ever a contestant on a game show. I’m convinced with each fact I gather that no matter how useless, it will be the answer to the question that stands between me and the grand prize so it goes in the memory bank. Even if there is credibility to the claimed benefits of sprouting and fermenting, it sounds like grains are only a fraction of your diet so I personally would stick with the flour that’s been working for you. You’re already eliminating the worst offenders (IMO)—the franken ingredients—by baking from scratch. The only reason I like sprouted flour is because I find it sweeter and as a devout Wonka follower, the sweeter the better. My dad doesn’t eat a ton of grains, anyway.

@Kilgore One of my friends (tall) found a beautiful tall black girl and I have already got them interested in Ray Peat. However, note that being tall is actually a trap, since you have a higher caloric requirement and are more susceptible to cardiac conditions because blood pumping requirements are not linear with height (AFAIK). This is why tall animals are so rare, because unless you have specific adaptations it's disadvantageous in that way to be taller than your competition.

@castle said in Just 1 minute of red light is effective: @Luke said in Just 1 minute of red light is effective: almost 20 years now (back then for acne) and I never cared about the warnings not to look into it. I didn't shine it directly into the eyes intentionally, but I also never closed or covered them. And I'm the only one in my family, including extended family (aside from one cousin) who has good eyes and never needed glasses. Could have many reasons of course, but maybe the red light was a factor. interesting. were you limiting your exposure all that time? I never did more than 15 minutes a day or so, maximum 20. But I didn't limit it deliberately, I just didn't see the benefit in using it more.

@Kilgore Those kind of cravings are mad, consumes your whole mind The problem I have is because I'm always active, my bodies craving fuel constantly. Feels great when I'm having decent amount of carbs with moderate fats and protein but if I'm trying to lose weight I'm just constantly thinking about food at anything less than 3k calories. But with carnivore I could easily drop to 2.5k or even a bit lower and the fats make me feel so full I barely even think about food, outside of occasionally craving fruit/rice. I might just switch for a couple of weeks, I know it's not optimal but I'd rather do that for 2-3 weeks and get lean and get back to eating properly instead of trying to work a small calorie deficit for with carbs for a longer period.

Worth knowing... http://haidut.me/?p=678 https://bioenergetic.life/?q=HCG and peatbot: Peatbot: HCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, is a hormone that is important for the health and intelligence of babies, particularly during pregnancy as it helps in strengthening the placenta. However, there are concerns about its use outside of pregnancy. It is suggested that HCG could promote the growth of hidden cancers, as some cancers produce HCG and it might have similar effects to pregnancy in accelerating cancer growth. Therefore, it is considered risky to use HCG for purposes such as weight loss until it can be shown that it does not promote cancer growth. Additionally, while HCG might help in treating some kinds of hypoglycemia, it should not be used or suppressed mindlessly.

@dapose This is a good point, for example coconut oil is comedogenic for some people and can cause acne if used on the face (for some no problems at all). It's really important to be aware of how your body reacts to things personally. Edit: Also wasn't previously aware prior to this thread that Lavender was estrogenic. I still have some epsom that has lavender in it but I figure I can dilute it with regular until it is used up and then not buy it again.

Nobody knows for sure. Maybe a handful of Russians do. Anyone versed in using it will probably have read a thing or two on the downside and want to say it's muh indirect dopamine from GABAB and TAAR. I'd add that's concentration dependant. But I think there's something more fundamental than that. Maybe it's that it alters vascular tone and cardiac output. Or tempers alteration from psychoemotional stimuli. So to render wit is to remain relaxed. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3709776/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6825820/ Beware of it though. There are no free lunches that don't exist in nature. It's potentially useful to learn things.

@PranaDeva said in the main goal of humanity is to populate other solar systems: Humans born on Earth may not be able to survive off planet. But when we die, we can incarnate onto other worlds as natives to a different planet or plane of existence. Good. No need to worry. We should be free as a bird is.

Would a heat lamp give good red light or incandescent radiation exposure while also acting as a space heater? idk if it is adequate but may be a good way to cut down electricity cost of heating while also getting light if it would work.

@Milk-Destroyer said in Sleep Paralysis Stories: Benadryl trip. When I was a teenager I tried the Benadryl thing (maybe 6-8 tablets) and occasionally took them to basically space out. You kind of forget where you're at. I was also really dizzy / slow. Then, lightning-like flashes were appearing when I closed my eyes, keeping me up late. Auditory noises that are probably totally imaginary kept happening and you kinda crack out. Do not recommend. I've had sleep paralysis somewhat rarely but it is not predictable. I haven't been able to connect it to foods but I think eating late and low exercise / movement / alcohol play a factor. I almost never drink and eat earlier now so it isn't common. I've definitely seen shadow figures, but that was more when I was younger. I would wager that the "boogeyman" is really just the product of sleep paralysis in children. The eyes are adjusted to the darkness so I think it's a natural state of fear if you believe you're awake and unable to move, then see a shadow or coat-rack and intuit a fearful situation. More recently if I had sleep paralysis I felt I was trying to turn back into the dream but can't. Then, several times I felt like I was screaming at the top of my lungs and/or crying. I think the screaming is related to not being able to breathe from some temporary apnea/blocked nasal passage. The emotional distress is hard to explain because there's no cause, just the effect of feeling instant pain. A good movie for everyone to watch is Altered States. The movie definitely freaked me out in real life so of course things like that probably influence people's unconscious. The idea of a sensory deprivation tank, or of being in one, is awful, in my mind. What if somebody locks you in it - a coffin filled with water, while you're on LSD? Anyways - or how about A Perfect Storm? You see where I'm going - I think maybe sleep paralysis is very personal and is playing into individual fears and experiences. But usually if it happens I wake up or dream that I wake up and go back to sleep and don't remember it. One should also not read too much Pessoa - terrifying stuff.
