Excerpt 2 from: Unsaturated Vegetable Oils: Toxic http://www.raypeat.com/articles/articles/unsaturated-oils.shtml To defend the seeds from the animals that would eat them, the [PUFA]-oils block the digestive enzymes in the animals' stomachs. Their tendency to oxidize is very great. These oxidative processes can damage enzymes and other parts of cells, and especially their ability to produce energy. The enzymes which break down proteins are inhibited by unsaturated fats, and these enzymes are needed not only for digestion, but also for production of thyroid hormones, clot removal, immunity, and the general adaptability of cells. The risks of abnormal blood clotting, inflammation, immune deficiency, shock, aging, obesity, and cancer are increased. Thyroid and progesterone are decreased. Since the unsaturated oils block protein digestion in the stomach, we can be malnourished even while "eating well." *) Useful info: more to be read on my forum. I noticed the reprint of Nutrition for Women says "100 short articles by Ray Peat, PHD," where the old one said "92...". What did they add to it? Also, note that From PMS to Menopause is for sale on Peat's website but not Amazon, and Peat's website doesn't have Generative Energy. Weird. I wonder if Katherine gets more of the money if you order from Peat's site. I'd imagine so.

@Mossy, thank you for understanding. I’ve been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we’ve been having here and helping my dad build up the endurance he lost since having the flu in January so I’ve been away from my computer and the forum more, lately. I think the thread’s title should read Cooking With Mossy because you’re far more ambitious and precise with your cooking than I am. You remind me of my brother. While I hardly ever measure ingredients and prefer using my senses—for example, I can tell by smell when something is done baking—my brother is methodical and likes following detailed instructions. I joke that it’s because he’s a Virgo, a sign known for its meticulous attention to detail, sometimes to its own detriment, and that if you want something done to perfection, hire a person with Virgo (or Capricorn) placements. I’m so glad you’ve made strides with your health and with your level of dedication, I have no doubt that you’ll continue to. I think my success with thyroid is a reflection of my long-standing deficiency, having had an under-active thyroid since birth and certain stressful experiences like molestation that suppressed it further. I think the average person with a healthier history could improve their thyroid function with diet and lifestyle changes alone. Having overcome the trauma, my need to supplement is minimal now outside of winter so I’m hopeful it will eventually be unnecessary. I’ve been a swimmer since I was in utero —in fact, one of my earliest memories is me as a baby in our pool wishing my mum had put me in the blue floaty she put my cousin in, instead of the red floaty I was in because even barely out of the womb I had strong preferences and don’t care for red lol—so I don’t actually fear I would drown, but I can see myself getting tossed around like a beach ball. However, it’s not mastering surfing that I’m after, but the surfer’s relaxed lifestyle and mindset. I could easily spend hours floating in the ocean on a surfboard (or steamer trunk—shout-out to Joe ), never catching a wave, and be in total bliss if I was in the flow, just being water, my friend. Haha! Fair enough. My dad isn’t a finger tapper, though. I sometimes wish he was because it has been a struggle getting him to eat, especially since his cancer treatments. I used to make all his meals in bulk on Mondays and he would just pull whatever he wanted out of the freezer and reheat it in the microwave throughout the week, but I’m having to make him all his meals daily now because he won’t eat otherwise. LOL at ask Jennifer. I’ve been collecting random knowledge in preparation for if I’m ever a contestant on a game show. I’m convinced with each fact I gather that no matter how useless, it will be the answer to the question that stands between me and the grand prize so it goes in the memory bank. Even if there is credibility to the claimed benefits of sprouting and fermenting, it sounds like grains are only a fraction of your diet so I personally would stick with the flour that’s been working for you. You’re already eliminating the worst offenders (IMO)—the franken ingredients—by baking from scratch. The only reason I like sprouted flour is because I find it sweeter and as a devout Wonka follower, the sweeter the better. My dad doesn’t eat a ton of grains, anyway.

@Kilgore One of my friends (tall) found a beautiful tall black girl and I have already got them interested in Ray Peat. However, note that being tall is actually a trap, since you have a higher caloric requirement and are more susceptible to cardiac conditions because blood pumping requirements are not linear with height (AFAIK). This is why tall animals are so rare, because unless you have specific adaptations it's disadvantageous in that way to be taller than your competition.

@potato said in Best tropical fruit?: @pswany Forget where I found this RP quote but he once had this to say about the safest fruits: "Soursop (corossol), lychee, longan, guava, papaya, pawpaw, sapota, guanabana. Some frozen and canned fruits are good; applesauce, soursop, guanabana, longans, and lychees for example. " Asian grocery stores have canned lychees and they are absolutely delicious. Protip if you go to a Hispanic grocery store, the frozen fruit section should have "Goya Fruta" frozen fruit pulp packs where you can find many of the above tropical fruits. Some of them have ascorbic acid or whatever though. Ive made guava Jello out of the Goya pulp and it slaps They sell the Goya Fruta at large chain supermarkets where I live. I’ve been getting them for close to 20 years—they have the best frozen graded coconut for making fresh coconut milk and cream—and just last month, I bought the guava and papaya and was bummed when I turned the packages around and saw that they now have preservatives. They used to be 100% fruit. As per the thread title, my favorite tropical fruit is hands down coconut. My other favorites include: • Banana, especially the mysore variety • Cherimoya • Jackfruit • Lychee • Mango, especially the ataulfo variety • Mangosteen • Passion fruit, especially the more floral, sweeter varieties

@jd_au I tend to identify that hypothyroidism in/around the forums with people that are very melodramatic. They often latch onto various forms of obscurantist mysticism babble when this is exactly the mindset that Ray fought against through most of his work, which was materialistically informed.

Some additional warming foods. Peatbot.com: Warming foods are typically those that help maintain or increase body temperature, often by supporting metabolism or providing a comforting, warming sensation. Based on the context provided, some examples of warming foods might include: Milk and Dairy Products: Milk, cheese, and other dairy products can be warming, especially when consumed warm or as part of a hot dish. Eggs: Eggs can be a warming food, particularly when cooked in ways that retain their nutrients, such as soft boiling. Bone Broths and Soups: Consomme, ox-tail soup, and other gelatin-rich broths are warming and nourishing. Meats with Saturated Fats: Meats like brisket with a saturated fat layer, lamb shanks, and ox tail are warming due to their fat content and the way they are often prepared (e.g., roasted or slow-cooked). Coconut Oil and Butter: These fats are considered warming and can be used in cooking or added to foods for extra warmth. Tropical Fruits: While some tropical fruits are allergenic to certain individuals, ripe and organic tropical fruits like sapotas and lychees can be warming. Honey: As a natural sweetener, honey can be warming, especially when used in warm beverages or dishes. Well-Cooked Potatoes: Potatoes, especially when cooked with butter or cream, can be warming and comforting. These foods not only provide warmth but also support metabolic processes, which can help maintain body temperature.

@Corngold said in Donald Trump defies the laws of aging. An obese, garbage food eating insomniac conquered the world at 78 (politics aside): Humanity is about humanity in the literal sense of the word "about." But language is not about language. We have to understand that people are using language and thought, and that is what is shaping language and thought, which makes language "about" language. It's rather about a discourse. "Discourse determines how knowledge is formed, legitimized, and applied in society. It limits what is thinkable and unthinkable, visible and invisible, normal and deviant." Moreover, tamed people most often reinforce certain discourses and build tools (e.g. Facebook or cryptocurrencies) that support them. And then they tame people even more... I.e. there is a constant interaction between people (culture), tools, and narratives with various feedback loops between them... In other words, Heidegger is writing for a particular time and place. He should be read more like a novel or a painting. Yep. BTW Why are these ancient German old farts still being squeezed? Currently, we have far better interpreters of reality like for example Mexican Miguel DeLanda or Korean-German Byung-chul Han...

@crwn1 said in Peaty protocol to help with chronic inflammation: recovering from chronic inflammation of soft tissue (tendons muscles) in the back? Useful info I'd try to match if ... The Abdominal-Lumbar Muscle Strap Stop the Abdominal Massacre and Strap Your Six-Pack Stomach (abs) Figure: No back flexion (lying down, hands behind your head, army style, raising and bringing your head closer to your knees). [image: 1741947791930-dos-abdos-arm%C3%A9e.%C3%A0-%C3%A9viter.gif] Stop the massacre because, with each such flexion, you compress the viscera and push them downward, says Dr. Fabrice Kuhn, sports physician, triathlete, and nutrition specialist. F. Kuhn was the doctor for the French weightlifting teams. What needs to be optimized is blood circulation and the supply of nutrients to the back muscles. There's no need to punish yourself with push-ups or sit-ups. There is a solution to firm up all your abdominal muscles. It's called core strengthening (“gainage”, in French) What is core strengthening? Core strengthening is the strengthening of the abdominal-lumbar muscle girdle: it is the whole of the abdominal muscles, and not only the rectus abdominis which form the famous "six packs", but also the transverse and obliques, and the para-spinal muscles (particularly the lumbar). Together, these muscles go around your trunk, like a sheath. This is why we talk about core strengthening. How will core strengthening help you? Core strengthening also has a direct benefit in combating lower back pain. However, core strengthening exercises will be even more beneficial when integrated into a comprehensive program that also targets the muscles of the limbs. In any case, you will be more efficient in everyday movements and reduce the risk of injury and lumbago or lower back pain. Good exercises to work your abdominal muscles Static core strengthening (frontal plank with support on the knees). Dynamic core strengthening (back plank with support on the feet +/- close to the buttocks). Instability core strengthening (Swiss ball) Note 1: Tips to avoid the risk of hernias, perineal relaxation, incontinence, intervertebral disc compression, lumbago, sciatica, etc. => Be careful to keep your buttocks, trunk, and head aligned to avoid postural imbalance. Core strengthening should focus on an isometric regimen (contraction without lengthening). Each movement should be held in the major part of the body for 10 to 20 seconds. Alternate. *...as George Steiner said, one of, if not the most, advanced theoretical minds of the Western civilization in the 20th century adopted this particular course and he did it because he believed that you cannot have a society where death has no meaning, because life has no meaning. And you cannot have a society which bases itself upon the absence of the religious urge, however you define that urge and whatever system you use. Because if you do the reverse you will end up with a society which has two values beyond subsistence. And that could be seen in the title of a grubby play produced in London a couple of years ago called "Shopping and Fornication". But that is all that life is, if you do not have spiritual levels based upon that. People will always be completely divided about the forms and the language that they use to talk about cardinal matters. But in a way, in a quite moving way really, Heidegger is attempting to get people to face in early modernity what it means to have a civilization and, not to be human, but to live with profound and real meaning. There’s no doubt that this theoretical postulation and this extreme abstraction is quite alien to certain elements of the Western civilization, certainly our own quadrant of it during the last couple of hundred years (Britain). But it is an attempt, not to aestheticize life, but to place life, ultimately, at the service of God, even and most especially for people who either don’t believe in him or can only approach such numinence through endless tiers of theory.* - Jonathan Bowden.
